What if someone is building walls while flattening ground (long process)? Would you recommend setting up the makeshift fence around the claim and slowly replace parts with better walls, or just leave the area open? I have little to no impressive storage and wouldn't exactly miss it all if anything went missing.

First off, make sure u have to flatten before going thru the trouble. In my experience, once u get the first cornerstone down, the wall segments themselves are much more forgiving when it comes to building on nonflattened areas.

Log out with your most valuable stuff, sell all that can be sold for silver and just keep it in your wallet. Then once you get the skill to build a stone hedge, the first thing you should do is surround yourself with one.

I disagree. Makeshift fence takes nothing but branches to make. You can bust one of these out in 10 mInutes. Having somewhere to run from snakes and random players can mean life

This is one of the first things I learned. The very first time I tried building a fence I wasn't aware of the 4 point level difference and got screwed. Now I level every single tile where the fence/wall goes as well as the adjacent tiles just to be on the safe side (no pun intended).

The more i build these, the more i like them. I am seeing them as superior to wooden fences. Both afford the same level of protection from environment, makeshift is far easier to make, yet still requires someone to have waste to gain access. If u can not make a stone wall happen for whatever reason I highly recommend the makeshift fence.
