I totally agree with this. Once there arent people tribe need to enforce theirs laws on Chief will make new laws or ask more silver for protection (it is harder to protect treaty payers from themselfs than from others, isint it? This mean greater costs for tribe and ultimately higher taxes) most likely both.

Plymouth would be more barren than it is now as the raiding/scalping went on full force and people left, forcing the Chief to move to a more populated server. The only way this ends in a way that lets everyone enjoy themselves is to stand up to the Chief en masse or pay the fee. It's a sandbox game. The structure is set by the devs and the rules are set by the powerful.

Actually, not exactly. Chief cannot monitor whole server and he doesn't know where everyone lives. That's why he needs the t(h)reaty. He makes people pay out of fear, but silver is not what he wants. He needs people's location. Only then he can really control them.

It still totaly amazes me that a whole server (give or take a few) just rolled over and played dead, not only that, but are still continuing to do so no matter what the Chief throws at them. Lol.
It's unbelievably fascinating.

At least in Haven those that opposed the leading faction - Dis - tried to stand up to them, formed factions big enough to at least hold their own and cause the odd bit of damage even if they couldn't defeat them.
I can't imagine people like Koya or Portgas or any other opposing faction leaders just 'giving in'.

I'm hoping he'll meet with more resistance when server travel opens up - if not and the same thing happens in Jamestown (hope you're preparing Lady Goo :) ) then i'm quite prepared to lose all rather than sell my char, my base and effectively my game play to the Chiefs backpocket.

WTH, Procne being #4, Jalpha being #5 and I am #6??!11!!?!!1?!
I hoped to be in the top 3. ><

Also, Anvil n' Hammer is just an alt, add my main too please.

P.S. I also violated the following articles that you did not list: Article I, II, III, V, VI, VII.

Maybe now you will think of reordering the list to a more proper one.

It would be nice to be in a position where you could conceivably stand up against the Treaty but as a new player whose base location has already been found (and raided) what can I possibly do with a sub 50 humour character with no murder skills and alts that are less that 1 hour old characters? Ive placed effort into my location and my character and really don't want to scrap either. If I was to start somewhere else (location or even server) I'd get bored quickly retreading the same old steps and most likely leave the game entirely. I understand this is a perma-death game and that I could lose all that anyway but most would have the infrastructure available to them to get a new toon back competitive within a month or so - I don't even have that.

For the time being I am enjoying my hermit-Treaty paying existence and I'm completely aware that its really the only viable option open to me given my own preferences. The reason behind this was joining the server (which I chose simply as it had an English name) Plymouth where others had already established themselves and their Villages. I didn't understand or know about the politics of the server until about 2-3 weeks into the game, committed at that point to my character/location.

For me it's simple, if I want to play the game I have to pay the treaty or its game over for me.

Wrote all this as I'm getting tired of the 'crawl on your belly', 'bend over and take it' type comments that are appearing here and there. As I said, it'd be nice to have options but Ive simply got survival on my mind.
