I will have to discuss this with Mr. Coles. Material goods that are taken from a claim are assessed in late fees and penalties first. I will see if Mr. Coles is willing to pay your fee for you out of his profit split he got while hitting your claim.

Nope. I returned three (3) chests to the victim and I don't intend to pay more because he failed to pay the treaty

Understood, I'm afraid your Treaty Payment remains delinquent. Penalties are paid in full with the material goods Jordan took. Please contact the Paymaster and work out payment options asap. I believe a few iron bars for a claim of your size should be sufficient.

As I said previously, I have laid out more signs with the 24 hour timer and here's what became of it

The initial posting
Image

Nearly 16 hours pass and I return to the little hermitage and I see this!
Image

Excited that the residents were going to pay their treaty, I check inside the container. I am sorely disappointed with what I find.
Image

Two (2) 0% purity crackers and two (2) earthworms. Though this may seem like enough in their eyes, this is not a proper payment and is in no way worth what their claim requires for the treaty payment.

As I prepare to place another sign asking for further payment I notice something strange.
Image

Very strange indeed. Under closer inspection and after spending many hours of research on urban dictionary I decided that this was indeed an attempt to mock the treaty.

Me being a man of my word, I decided to leave the hermitage for a few more hours to give them time to pay up before the 24 hour period was over even though the man's gate was currently wide open.

Hours pass...

I log back in and again I see no payment, this time the urn had been moved back onto the claim and his gates shut.
I decide to have a word with one of the residents.

I waited...

And waited still...

The windmill did not stop spinning as it spoke but one word, "DEFIANCE!"
Image

He had made his choice.
Image

Image

He fell, a loyal steed.
Image

Image

Moral: "It is better to pay your treaty and live, than to give your attackers the cold shoulder"

Silver Lining: Braziers were bashed to only 50%, and the industry is left in tact so that the accused may produce enough silver for his next payment. No blood was shed and a single candle was lit to remember the windmill who "loved his master until the very end."

Take them for the treaty payment I guess. If I do continue I wouldn't be up for moving etc given the work Ive put in leveling the land.

I have to say though I don't understand why you play the bad guy when you obviously have a semblance of conscience.

Sorry, I was under the assumption that you had taken back the chests you returned in lieu of the Treaty payment.

Providing they are still at my claim when I am finally able to log back in I would be happy to make my Treaty payment.

I thought it would be you Colesie, that's why I left cookies for you. And in return you've left me your scents.

Back in to the past...

Just a bit after the New Year, I found a perfect spot. 2 houses, a windmill, very influential fields, a mine, smelters, bunch of cupboards and whatever your heart desires. Claimed it, fixed it, improved it. And gained a lot in the process.
Image

More than a week later, I felt like that is not enough. I needed more, I needed better, I needed to go as far away from that. I can't stand being in the same place for more than a week. But I needed an incentive, and it seemed to me like either the tribe ignored me on purpose, or they hadn't found me yet (hiding in plain sight, ftw).
I couldn't leave it all behind just like that. Especially not my sunshine.
Image
But no one runs from the Tribe forever. At least not since certain J.C. joined them. Before, it was easy to fool the savage simpletons that came asking for money. But this guy, JC, no... he was no Indian. But why he joined them, is beyond me.
So, one shiny day I woke up, hugged my windmill, checked my fields and BAM! There it was. A note.
Image

Even tough I expected that day to come, I started to panick. Panick! What to do, what to do, what to do......
"Well... just pay them", said my inner voice. "Sure... why not?"
So I payed the Tribe, not what I thought I owed them, but what I thought they perhaps deserved with all that effort of running around and putting signs. A charity for poor, naked Indians. And since I suspected it was probably the good Samaritan JC that was collecting it, I also left him 2 cookies (had no milk, sorry).
Image

And then... then I just blacked out and don't remember anything but waking next to this:
Image

Oh noes. Oh noes! That is not gonna leave a good impression on my coming-soon guests. Meh, what the heck... They prolly won't even notice it. Just a smudge of pavement, nothing more...

I could barely sleep that night. And the morning was even worse. More SHOCK!
Image

My beloved windmill was gone! Had it escaped? Ran away from me? And there it was - a trace of that murderer.
Jordan Coles, you have murdered the love of my life, my soulmate, my moonlight... For that you will burn in hell!
But I forgive you. And I've already moved on.

I'm also willing to share what smelly scents I have of this perpetrator.
I used to be a pilgrim like you. Then I took an Indian arrow in the head...

Knowing you 'found' this site makes me feel better about how both our claims looked in comparison to one another. Was left feeling decidedly inferior when I saw the aesthetics on display there.

Sooo much flat land with no terraforming scars....... Oh the drying racks I could build on such a place.
