This will only encourage people to use bots as merchants 24/7 and brings no positive change.

With any system you are going to have people abusing it. Be it with the stalls (people camping (or botting) to get one), or be it with a merchant mode (20 afk alts selling the same items at different prices to create a false average). The only difference is in the notion of how much it "costs" to bot. With the revised system setting up a merchant bot would require

1. A decent skill level
2. A perpetually logged in account (easy to check if 2 accounts are logging in from the same network, unless they're smart enough to proxy)
3. Silver (10-20 per 24 items sold)

With the initially suggested system? No cost or effort required.

We just need an auction board in the main cities where anyone can sell their items and set their prices...

No stalls are fine, they just need more upkeep.

If the upkeep was high enough then you can expect that:
- people wouldn't buy them to hold monopoly
- people wouldn't buy them to act as a vault
- people wouldn't put in them overpriced goods that noone wants to buy
- people would actually try to keep them full with stuff that can be sold

And ultimately those stalls wouldn't be crazy money. Because with the amount of stalls we have now imagine what would happen if all their owners suddenly tried to make money - more competition, undercutting, more supply for the high demand goods.

Like i said you have no idea how much money 1 stall makes. I advise you get one and find out.
