step 1: check madness before sleeping with a teddy bear
step 2: sleep in a bed for 8 hours of server up time
step 3: log in and check your madness level
step 4: compare your new madness level to the level you had before sleeping

i know it's complex but i think you'll manage

To be 100% sure it were 8h, use Latikais or Enders client (which you should do anyways, as it's a torture to use the vanilla client)

Go to the xtended menu ("x") and then timers,
add a timer for 8h and start it right before going to sleep with that char.
The timers only take server time into account and thereby ignore downtime, so you can be 100% sure it were 8h.
