I hear ya but it crashed. Some data was lost regardless. It's 2018. It's pretty common to have some sort of auto scripted mechanism that will reboot server mechanics when exe's crash out etc. It's not really fair to JC either to have to manually do this every time, seems rather "barbaric". Maybe it's something he can develop using a task/tool/batch file auto etc. just saying :D

There are many problems with doing that. It's not just one server controlling everything. There more than likely needs to be some sort of boot order for things to fall in place correctly. There also might be logs that need to be collected before a reboot. There aren't any exe's running on the server btw. It's linux

When one server crashes it doesn't inform the rest of 'em that the account has been logged out properly, so no, no real way around it. Usually people will have some backup alts they use for chores on other accounts. Luckily for me I was on both accounts at once so I get to take a break and not lose progress compared to everyone else xD

Yeah I figured it was a linux environment. Just feel bad for the guy. it sucks for us, but it really sucks for him. Maybe he could train/delegate a few dudes to help with the restarts?

And as an additional for the record, I believe JC has stated before that automatic reboots are a bad idea. It might cause the server to try and load corrupted map tiles that were improperly saved, and mess them (or the server in general) up more completely and -without proper oversight- permanently.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Just backup everything b4 an automatic restart and nothing can be lost permanently and how does he know a map is corrupted? Is the system that warns him like everything else so backup and don't restart if warned.

Whatever he does "manually" he can "automate". Again it's 2018, and we are talking computers... There are tools for days, regardless of the environment. Just my .02. Not trying to throw the guy under the bus, just trying to help him grow the game.
