How to get White Corn

Postby catote2 » Sat Aug 05, 2017 1:11 am

This field: 85-49-60-0 produced 13% white corn and 87% blue corn.
According to wiki http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Corn it should have been all white, or?
I have 7 of those fields for an overall of 899 blue and 130 white corn.
As seeds I had used 3 fields with white and 4 fields with blue seeds, and the yield was similar.

- Seeds do not effect the tier of what you harvest.

- Your total corn-related influences are 145 which means all tier 2 mixed between the 2 kinds (between 100 and 150)

I'll explain it in a moment, this is a little difficult for new players to understand. :D

[edit:]
Now I see your point, it should have been mostly white corn if the wiki is correct, but I honestly have not used corn in eons (since it got vastly nerfed) so I can't tell if it's correct.

For the general distribution of tier-results, you have to look at each segment individually, it works like this:

- no influence related to what you plant means tier 1

- on the way to 100 it is tier1 and tier2 whereas 100 total influence means 100% tier2

- up till 150 it is only tier2, whereas the split between the tiers is also related to the total inluence closing in on 150 total influence (this gets more clear on the next line)

- from 150 to 200 influence it is tier 2 and tier 3, now comes in a catch, 2 actually, first off, the higher influence determines the tier3 amount, the lower one is the tier2 you get,
further this is related to the total influence of 150 to 200 and NOT the relation of the influence of the two related bars, meaning at 175 total you get half and half tier 2 and 3, and it does not
matter if one bar is 100 and the other is 75, or one is 90 and the other 85, the lower one simply determines what tier2 you get, the total influence determines the relation of tier 2 and 3.

This is all explained on the agriculture site on the wiki, but might be a little difficult to read at first. :D

I suggest you ignore the huge wall of text, and just take a look at the Agriculture page on the wiki, and also use the image in this post for reference: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1603&p=224424#p224424

Thanks. Your answer confirms what is buggning me. These influences should produce mostly WHITE corn according to wiki.
And thinking about it, I do have trouble producing RYE and BIGAUTUMN. So I wonder if the method has changed somehow.

Now documented with screenshots, if anyone can use them for anything:
Field: 80-77-55-0 planted with corn.
Should produce pure T2 according to wiki and (80+55=135) of the type white, because the first row is the higher number.
Instead it produced 156 blue corn and only 67 white corn.
After harvest: 75-100-50-0.

there is something wrong indeed, i have also noticed a decreased yield on rye that i cannot explain.

That number is accurate actually, look at it this way:

135 is 35 out of 50 in the "mixed tier 2 segment", that is 35/50 = 0.7 so the relation would be expected to be 0.7 to 0.3,
your result of tier 2 mix is 156 to 67, which is a relation of 0.6996 to 0.3004, that kind of looks right.

It's not the ratio they're saying is the problem here, taipion. I think this is something John will have to look at in the code.

I'd need to test this actually, as I rarely grow two tier2 intentionally instead of tier3 + tier2, or single tier 2 (+tier1).
And I also did not grow corn for quite a while, as I already said.

For tier3 + tier2 in the total influence range of 150 to 200 things are clear and correct in the wiki, and behave just like that ingame.

Therefore, for the range of 100 to 150 I can only assume it works like this:

Yields for A and B are determined by the progression from total influence 100 to 150 whereas 100 is 100% A and 0% B, 125 is 50% both, and 150 is 0% A and 100% B.

And the actual relation of A to B is not relevant, other than the higher influence is A and the lower is B.

So in this example it would go like this:

- total influence 100, 100 of that on bar 1 (cabbage) gives you 100% white corn
- total influence 125, split on bar 1 and 3 (cotton), whereas 1 > 3, gives you 50:50 white/blue corn
- total influence 150, split on bar 1 and 3, whereas 1 > 3, gives you 100% blue corn

Maybe someone here has experience with it and can enlighten us, I don't really feel like raising fields and planting corn just to analyze something I never use (the total influence range of 100 to 150). :D

Here's a thread where the cereals were discussed:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=17472&p=253922&hilit=influence#p253922

It might be a parallel case, with a little experimenting in-game you can learn the truth for yourself. Remember that the Wiki is kept up voluntarily by players and sometimes the game mechanics change, or the players that documented it had an incomplete understanding.
