I played H&H W3, W5, and a bit of W6, having most fun at W3. Indeed wipes were a reason for me to quit for a while, so I agree this is a bad idea.
I am just having fun at Clayet's exaggeration about 3 wipes a year.

He said there were 3 wipes in one year, not that there are three wipes a year.

Was what he actually said true? Just curious.

Last wipe was 11months ago, so no it's not. I like both games for different reasons.

Here comes the weekly rambling about more than 2 players been a zerg. And how wrong are games in which teams have advantage over one person(You did saw rambo movies right?)

Hafen is a really solid game, plus as some pointed out the start of the game in both salem or hafen is prolly the highlight of the server then it becomes stale and dies(both have serious problems with endgame). The only problem i found with hafen is the ****** combat system everything else feels “better“ than salem.
People shouldn't be surprised about wipes by this point. And most of us just love both games.

if a haven server managed to stay up for more than 5 months and i was playing it in any focused capacity whatsoever the result there would be the exact same as here, likely even more dramatic since the "big shots" there over the years are largely made up of people who were horrible here and went back after getting embarassed. i suspect this is an integral part of the haven communities pro wipe mentality, as virtually all of the shared playerbase between salem/haven are the same people that suck over the long term and rely on wipes to erase the progress of their superiors so they can be put on an even footing again which is why most have slowly trickled back to haven full time since wipes are not part of salem and a new expedition has not come out yet.

I admit i saw that and was indeed wondering if JC was throttling the next patch to be a few weeks into the new haven world, since a few weeks is all it takes for the bulk of players to lose the initial rat race interest. Not quite sure if they fixed melee hunting to make it viable, but if they hope that'll slow down progression they're soooo wrong, as long as archery is still as broken After having tried both I can say Salem has more replayability value, so now we just have to wait for that "before christmas" patch to eventually hit. And for alloying to get fixed so we're not stuck working for naught. As it stands only a handful of activities seem worthwhile, at least compared to their old yields.

Well, if you have to wipe your board clean in an MMO, you know you did something wrong!

In most other, more simple, especially non-digital types of games, a wipe is a must, but there are only 2 reasons you would want a wipe in an MMO:
1.) Someone "won", fulfilled a certain condition, reached the games goal, like in our expedition(s)
2.) Something is seriously broken

If your games demands costant wipes, and its not because of 1.), then your design is seriously broken.

Both games are amazing for the same reason. Most prefer hnh due to the constant pvp that happens. Salem has the better pvp system but NO ONE does it. Just compare the 2 different HoB sections and you see a total different community. There are multiple factions instead of darwoth, heff and friends, kkk and friends. And they all fight and hunt each other. Most people in hnh agree that salem has the better pvp system but don't like the rest of it.
