They are still alive and really coming into power in the books. In the books it was finally revealed why the price didn't make his move against the Lannisters and stayed out of the wars. The big ass black dude also had some awesome parts in the books. His backstory was really interesting.
See i could totally tell that there was a bigger role for them to play. How they decided to kill them off was so stupid too.
Like "hey i was madly in love with your brother Obrin, and were all upset cuz the lanisters kill our family members, yet im now going to kill my own family by marriage cuz you didnt revenge the deaths of your immediate family."
very poorly done. The martells seemed bad ass.
In the books the prince has all the sand snakes locked up so they don't start a war too early getting revenge. There are A LOT of people from Dorn that the show hasn't touched at all yet. The biggest bad ass is a dude who was called the sword of morning. He had a sword made from a meteorite that was milk white. No one since him has earned the right to carry the sword. I dont think the show even talked about Darkstar who tried to kill myrcella(she is dead on the show) but ended up mauling her and killing a kingsguard.
There is very little said about Dorn in the books other than their woman and wine but what was said is amazing.
I saw a rumor that they are going to do a flashback to show what happened at the tower of joy. Another HUGE plot that was never talked about in the show. It's also my favorite part in all the books. It came from a PTSD dream ned had. This is also a major part of possibly Jon's story. Rhaegar took ned's sister hostage and left her at the tower protected by 3 of the kingsguard for some mysterious reason.
“I looked for you on the Trident,” Ned said to them.
“We were not there,” Ser Gerold answered.
“Woe to the Usurper if we had been,” said Ser Oswell.
“When King's Landing fell, Ser Jaime slew your king with a golden sword, and I wondered where you were.”
“Far away,” Ser Gerold said, “or Aerys would yet sit the Iron Throne, and our false brother would burn in seven hells.”
“I came down on Storm's End to lift the siege,” Ned told them, and the Lords Tyrell and Redwyne dipped their banners, and all their knights bent the knee to pledge us fealty. I was certain you would be among them.”
“Our knees do not bend easily,” said Ser Arthur Dayne.
“Ser Willem Darry is fled to Dragonstone, with your queen and Prince Viserys. I thought you might have sailed with him.”
“Ser Willem is a good man and true,” said Ser Oswell.
“But not of the Kingsguard,” Ser Gerold pointed out. “The Kingsguard does not flee.”
“Then or now,” said Ser Arthur. He donned his helm.
“We swore a vow,” explained old Ser Gerold.
Ned’s wraiths moved up beside him, with shadow swords in hand. They were seven against three.
“And now it begins,” said Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. He unsheathed Dawn and held it with both hands. The blade was pale as milkglass, alive with light.
“No,” Ned said with sadness in his voice. “Now it ends.”
7v3 and the 3 almost won had it not been for howland reed saving Ned's life. Howland is Jojen and Meera's father. He is currently the only person in the world who really knows what happened at the tower and ned's promise to his dying sister.
God i need to crack open the books again. There is just so much amazing story in them.
