Law & Lore: Proffession fleshed out.

Postby NeiroShop » Fri Jan 15, 2016 11:21 am

Hey all. For a long time something thats botherd me in Salem is the strangeness of paying silver to your townbell/claimstake and getting bonus values depending on your Law & Lore proficiency.

Its not an interesting mechanic and makes little sense overall. I'd like to suggest some new additions to the "Proffession".

New Skill : Mayoral Decrees.
Requirements: Law & Lore : High ~ 200-300 proficiency
Faith & Wisdom : Medium ~ 100-150 proficiency
Perennial Philosophy : Low ~ 40-50 proficiency

Mayoral Decrees allows you to decree areas of your town/village restricted to town/village members. Also allows you to register your town with Benjamin Bryberry.

Registering the town would require a small fee of silver, A map with the location of the village, And a "Recruitment Decree paper" where the mayor would write a small note with some information about the town or in case of Marp a picture of phallic object. The newly registerd towns map & note would be visible on a billboard for any pilgrim to view after paying Benjamin 35silver.

The benefits of registering the town would be a decrease in claim taxes. (instead of the random bonus money, Im sure you could even tax non-registerd towns higher ¦] )

When a Mayor wishes to restrict access to areas of the town he would simply walk up to a boundry stone or townbell and click restrict access after opening its interface. However the claim tax for the village would go up for each boundry stone restricted by equal amount of a new authority flag object.
Also note that when a Mayor restricts access to certain boundry stone areas or townbell for the townmembers they would have to turn on criminal acts to move within the restricted areas whilst any stranger/non-townmember of that town would be able to freely walk like before.

All this would help with town recruitment (lots of people still dont use forums and any game with aims of higher than 1k-2k population the forums will be an absolute horrible place to be for newcomers anyway) Whilst still staying true to the Risk-reward system of salem.

The dev time this would take is most likely quite significant whilst ingame itd amount to : New billboard, Interface for boundry stones & extra buttons in townmember list to give them access or not.

Anyhow i just thought of it in the shower this morning so i figured id post it. :?

Not a terrible start. Rumor has it that Bryberry is currently in negotiations with the political powers of Popham and may soon be willing to sell maps with the location of all towns :). Lets just hope he doesn't decide to do the same on Providence.

Should limit this to Top 10 towns at least. Hermit towns should still be able to live in relative safety imo.(at least on providence)

Even if two big towns seems active again , there's still less than 10 towns with paid upkeep/bell on Popham :D

Bjebr , +1 for Bryberry
