Why would you even WANT to be afk rather than logged out, if you don't have outstanding scents? all it does is endanger you to anyone that might pass by.

Sitting in your base is mostly a safe thing, especially in a house or mine, whereas being online means, you can receive chat messages from other players, friends, customers...
Therefore, madness is limiting social interaction, at least to some degree, which in itself is a very bad thing for any multiplers game.

no you didn't understand me, seems like ur happy with current madness system, I know I can I do something else while smelter is smelting, but whatever, this was just an example.

Madness lvl6! the rate is ridiculous at which it grows, this time I kept track what exactly I was doing, Harvesting, replanting, reprocessing of farm stuff, gathering tons of flowers, so at this point insanity should be zero, did some whitting and study a few items just in case if its not enough, while smelter is smelting and theres is nothing left to do, I take some break and go afk, I come back when smelter finished smelting, my madness is increased to lvl6, woila!

Just make a bed, log out in it when you go to do things off game. Log back in when smelters are done. If you have your account remembered it takes 3 seconds to log back in, not that hard.

yep thats what I do now, but as I said this is annoying to go to bed every 10mins.

Madness lvl7! this time like usually I take care of my farm, replant, reprocess, craft some stuff, mine some ores, again replant, ofc my farms are increasing, madness lvl increases, wait I didnt even finished with my farm :(, didn't even go afk, seems like I'm struggling with insanity, ***** me, I really need to save for a teddy bear now :D

get an affluence set (not too hard with newbie clothes and a couple of geodes/gems. That way you can smoke the hookah once a day for an easy -1 madness.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

it depends how you're counting: the tooltip counts from 0 to 9, but graphics in my client count from 1 to 10. At the highest, you permadie. deal with your madness.

Seeing as how you were lvl 7 just a post ago and lvl 9 with this post I'm guessing you were on during Bloodmoon.
Getting Knocked out by anything will cause permadeath during a Bloodmoon which I am assuming happened as per what you wrote.

Is it really that hard to study once every hour or so? And if you go up a level just smoke some tobacco its relatively cheap :|

That might all be true, but it is also true that it now requires work just to be online and chat.
Whereas this is absolutely unpractical for any newbie who does have neither a teddy, nor a tobacco plantation, nor high BB and maybe not even all learning skills and therefore slow flow of inspiration to study stuff.
I really dislike how this hits you the harder the newer your are, for any halfway established player it's laughable, just does not seem right.

Not at all true. New players will not gain passive insanity for the first 48 hours of play time. That's quite a lot of time to get a handle on how things work, learn a number of skills, increase humors at least a little bit, and probably earn more than enough silver to buy a bear skin. And if it happens that a new player doesn't do any of that and just wanders around aimlessly or stands about afk in town, they won't be losing all that much if they do die of madness and must try again.
