Meeting up with friends that just joined the game has a solution. The problem is it is not be obvious what needs to be done and it's a bit buggy. If a couple of people have already been playing for a while want to join up, there is no solution other than walking.
There might be room for a new object in game that acts as a beacon for players to spawn or teleport to. The sole purpose of this would be to allow new town members to join a town. There are a lot of issues with this, though. There could be enough restrictions put on to prevent abuse and make it solely for bringing in new players to a town or claim.
Could this be used as a cheap way to move goods quickly between towns? Require an empty bag just like trying to port home from the wilderness. Also require a silver fee to use it.
Could this be used spawn in a bunch of fighters to attack someone? Limit use to once per 24 hours or something like this could be one possible solution or limit it to people without Rights of Englishmen just like the random teleport.
Could this be griefed by someone with the password? This is definitely a possibility. Just like the homestead secret, a player would want to protect who had access to it. A limit in number of uses per day would prevent spawning a lot of alts, but the flip side to that issue is that someone could use up the teleport for the day. An "on/off" switch might be a solution.
Someone might mention Charter Stones which were eventually removed from HnH. They didn't actually serve a practical purpose and were just used for griefing, gimmicks, or bug abusing. The idea was to give new players an option of spawning there and wandering out to their own adventure or maybe joining the village they spawned at, but because of the requirement to build one only on a village claim, it wasn't practical--nobody wants a bunch of alts wandering around the outskirts of town. However, there were some merits to the idea and putting in restrictions such as I have mentioned above might make it practical without the previous issues.
