this probably would have been the 2nd best way to implement it...
it wouldn't have done what they THINK it dose..... but what they think it dose is easily countered by making alts.

Madness is rendered a non-issue by....pine cones.

An ultra-cheap Inspirational and roastable food all in one. You even get lards occasionally.

I haven't gained a madness level in over a month, and that was just because I leveled a huge expanse of ground and strangely found 4 Traces of the Lost Colony in under 30 minutes. I had been keeping it in check just by roasting the grubs I was finding every time I got about 8.

Do you have crops? I barely do agriculture right now, as I'm focusing on my mining, but I turn out dozens of cotton fields for vendor money and to build up my aether values, which doesn't even take that long. To keep the upkeep at 2 humus I use wood choppings from pine cones and then have a bunch of pine nuts. I always get more pine cones than I need.

They're really light, and I'm sure your main has more YB than mine. I've been spending a LOT of time in my mine lately (see my thread in the Trade-Wind about finding 28 silver boulders), and I haven't gained a single madness level. I just occasionally roast up a few pine nuts and study a couple of choppings. I've done both huge blocks of time and I've had days when I logged in multiple times to deal with dark tiles. During the short sessions I usually didn't even study or roast anything; I'd just go sleep in my bed.

I never gain a madness level when I'm gardening or foraging because I'm getting inspirationals and picking flowers.

I never gain a madness level when I'm farming because I have those plants to eat and inspirationals to study. For fertilizers I gather a bunch of pine cones to keep my upkeep low through wood choppings.

I never gain a madness level when I'm mining because I have wood choppings and pine nuts to roast from the pine cones I need to farm.

Maybe the issue is you have multiple characters that don't do a diverse array of activities? I know it seems tedious, but I'd just get a ton of pine cones. It doesn't even take long. I bet I could gather 50 pine cones in well under 10 minutes. If you did that every three days it would give you 17 (shy one) choppings and 17 pine nuts per day. I very highly doubt you would ever gain a madness level if you weren't digging (and if you were, you'd get grubs to roast).

If you have issues with frequently having to leave your computer suddenly, the Latikai client will automatically log you out after 10 minutes without activity if you enable it.

This is the point people are trying to make that don't like madness. It's tedious and not fun.

Well I'm not saying it shouldn't be reviewed, but I don't see that it's a major problem. I bet I could get 50 pine cones in 6 minutes if I really tried, and I would be pretty much madness-proof for three days. That's 2 minutes of effort per day. You could probably stretch those 50 pine cones to last a whole week if you do any other madness-lowering activities, like gardening, sifting (getting gems), or flower picking.

Your typical "daily" quest in WoW took well over 2 minutes, and there were tons of them.
