oh was on my server... the KKK destroy every thing they can... or did

Support expressed in this thread? Missed it. JC has said there are many things in game yet to be discovered, just because they haven't been discovered yet doesn't validate their existence. I won't bother returning insults, when you use words such as 'retarded', it's hardly a match of wits.

This thread has like the same 4ish people bickering with darwoth about the dumbest things. Just because you don't see the support doesn't mean it's not there.

Of course there are many things not discovered in the game, that's a huge part of Salem. No one has noticed this "issue" and it's been in game a few months. People haven't had s problem with this change until now and nothing bad had happened with it on the large scale of things and it could of been avoided if people would of defended the town. There is no actual issue with this change and people are crying like its the end of the world for no reason. I have seen more panic about this than the Clinton assault gun ban.

I don't think you understand what's being said. I also don't really care if you want to trade insults or not, it has nothing to do with this at all.

Ps if you guys want something to change then you are going about it the wrong way. Every argument made here would be countered by jc saying something along the lines of "defend your town, plan it out better and you won't see a issue with this.

Also No one has mentioned either that some towns can not be tbc or wasted due to large claims and jc said a long time ago that if this were to happen he would make changes to this.

Not really, we're trying to make a fun and complex game. There is still a lot that needs to be added or changed so obviously the difficulty level of various things will go up or down as things change. Maybe some things are too hard right now? We're always open to changes. Madness, for example, was only ever meant to be relieved by Tobacco, but players asked for more and got it.

ToorimaKun wrote:take the gluttony timer out

We inherited the timer, you know. We've tried to shoehorn it into our idea of a great gluttony mechanic, but it's not working so well. Hence the recent thread asking opinions on a new idea we had and/or alternate ideas for a good gluttony mechanic. But we didn't get much from you all out of it, it's not so easy to completely reimagine something everyone is used to.

ToorimaKun wrote:put purity back in the game

It's in the game.

ToorimaKun wrote:think about it... back in the day people would raid your food but leave the base for the most part in tact so you could recover....

When did that happen? Back in the day, people would steal every single thing, break what they couldn't take or what wasn't worth it, completely scrape every structure down to the kilns and sometimes even some trees once those had purity, and kill anyone and everyone who was unfortunate enough to log on while it was happening. And this sometimes happened all in the space of a few hours before the town even knew what was happening.

ToorimaKun wrote:these days people raid the base and trash ***** every thing and kill all the villagers.... and with authority objects ***** up... they trough down a bell on top of what is left.

so now any one that wants to keep playing has to start COMPLETELY over..... new char... new p-claim.... then eventually a new village claim... if you make it that far again.

These days, people get 24 hours warning on their towns at least before a raid and can just not log on to save their characters who aren't criminals. These days, people can store silver safely in the bank as a nest egg to start over with, dead characters can inherit a good chunk of their proficiencies and humors. And bases are a whole hell of a lot more difficult to destroy and not so much worth the effort.

You're upset about not knowing that when we added the tax rebate system, we also made it possible to destroy authority objects under a waste claim, and I can understand that considering what can happen if you don't defend your town that is being raided and failed to place your borderstones properly. I do remember specifically talking with John about the problems involved with a town being able to plant a ***** of authority flags and borderstones and raiders placing annoying bells and those never being able to be destroyed. We wanted people be to be able to war over who gets the most silver from taxes. We wanted people to be able to evict an annoying neighbor despite their having a paid bell. I was actually pretty surprised to come back from my vacation and find the riot that happened when someone decided to put their borderstones outside their wall and suffered for it; I hadn't realized this wasn't a known mechanic.

But like many changes we've made, we can make a change if we are asked. If people want to stop complaining all over the forums about it and calling us names and come here to make a reasoned suggestion and a calm argument about why you think things should be changed, and what exactly should be changed, there's a good chance that something will change. Just remember to think through the consequences. What will you do, for example, if Darwoth decides to put 4 bells around your town and keep them paid forever so your town can never expand? Invincible paid bells means you're just screwed, time to move camp or resign yourself to living in a cage.

i personally don't care about the gluttony timer... just saying that if it was gone and purity was back then you would see a lot more people raiding.
*and again i don't care if people don't raid... if we have a server of carebears then so be it.*

I have already posted that putting in an other object could be used for the "tax rebate system"
i recommended a statue that would allow you to place boarder stones with out having to leap frog them... and then those of us that don't want to be in the top village list can just destroy the stone after we placed our boarder stones.

as far evicting annoying neighbors.... that is actually some thing i had not thought about yet...
1st idea: coming to mind would be some kind of seniority system for what ever bell has been there longer.
2nd idea: would be to make it so that boundary stones and town bells have to burn for (X) amount of days or so before they can be broken.

I can be counted as a supporter of the change. It seems to fit the game to me. When I was researching about towns and whether it would be to my advantage to start one I was rather amazed that I can just put up a boundry stone and only have to protect and pay the bell. However, I have to agree with the ones who are arguing that it was a bad move to make this kind of a change without advanced warning or at the very least announcing it at the time of the change.

Quote of the year.

If you even attempt to defend your town against players like Darwoth and Co (Actually giving him credit here), you will be doing more harm to yourself than what is about to happen. You would be better off grabbing what you can and legging it and hoping for the best, rebuilding like you suggested, but without bothering to defend.

Its the same with TBC and how people made elaborate designs (That the devs could make impossible) to basically make you drop more scents if you try to stop it. yea good in theroy sloppy implimentation.

Just like many things JC has introduced, amazing concepts some are poorly implimented. He has done some amazing work, he really has, but some of the new "features" just seems like pure trolling, and if they were overlooked / poorly implimented why are they not fixed ?

The point is, its not worth even Defending your town anymore. unless you and your town members own an army of alts, the game forces you to have armys of combat alts to fight armys of combat alts because armys of combat alts.

The game becomes very boring and repetitive once you hit a specific point, nothing has really changed if you look at the grand scope of things, except the game now requires you to have / control more alts than you needed before, and raiding is reserved for the novalifers who can churn out the alts in question.

can i ask how a character with 300~ in all biles standing behind brickwalls filled with braziers/torches could not scare off darwoth with constant brazier/torch spam and spamming him with stuns and polearm hits, even with abuse of mechanics (wich we leave out here since its unproven atleast out of the authority abuse) he should/could not be undefeatable.. right?

Easy, he just waits untill you go offline.

:|

PS, Read the last few words of my post "Raiding is reserved for the novalifers", and maybe you get your answer as well. Incase you do not understand novalifers = People who play 24/7

Also, We all know Darwoth is NOT the lonewolf he is portrayed as, he wouldnt be alone.

pretty much...

and again another quote from a player proving that i am not the only player that thinks this way:

@Devas
you guys seem to think i just want Salem to fail...
yes i want to have my own server... but only because i could get rid of the stuff that just feels like it is pure punishment.
I want all the villagers that i have had in the past to come back and play with me again.
I have other guild members that i have played with in other games that WOULD come take a look if things were different.

Salem has the potential to be a really great game with thousands of players.... it just needs to feel like a GAME not a JOB.
