get rid of the key-alt

TL;DR:
If you inherit with one character from another character, chose one:

1.) automatically attune all of the ancestors keys to the heir

2.) automatically attune all of the ancestors keys to the heir, and auto-transfer the ancestors equipped keyring to the heir (if it is there),
would be kinda strange to get to own all the property/estate of your ancestor and not get the keys, huh?!

3.) (like meow suggested:) make keys attuned to an account, not character

4.) give an option/way to deposit keys (one keyring item for instance), probably along with making your will, those keys will then be handed to and attuned to your heir


(long version:)
When your character dies, you can inherit, that's good.
(...except you are a 2nd+ witch, then you can't^^)

Inheritance includes the transfer of certain things, that is afaik:
- all claims the deceased character had
- all the "mail" you got with deceased character
- all money in the bank of the deceased character
- enables you to loot the "ancestor" with the "heir" without it being a crime, if it is not a skeleton yet

That means:
You get all stuff, property and estate your ancestor had, you get his cloths, tools and keys, but you may not use his keys!
As the keys are still attuned to the ancestor, not the heir.

Therefore you need a key-alt, that is a character otherwise unused, that has master copys of all your keys, attuned to that alt, so you may make and attune new copys in case your other character(s) die.
This is mandatory, if you don't have a fetish for beating down and then replacing all your own doors...

The key-attunement-system is good, would be kinda bad if someone that KOed or even killed your char could not only loot you, but use your own keys to get into your home, too.
If that would be the case, we would see bouncer-alts, only there for opening doors, and no one would ever embark on a hunting or foraging trip while carrying keys...
So instead, we should have a way to pass keys to the inheriting character.

Simpler solution.

Allow a "key holder" npc, who will hold Attuned keys for a fee.

These keys may be claimed by a decendant. ( And attuned when claimed )

PS: Ive already suggested my solution to the key alt problem befor.

I guess that would work, too, but it would be more immersive to couple this with making a will, or probably easier to just attune keys to accounts instead of characters.

how bout we just remove attuning and if i steal your keys i can open your gates instead.

Seconded since that's how keys work in real life as well too.

...Ask for some little convenience to have one less alt.
...End up with the need for much more alts and more work, though no one gains anything through it, except if you count as a "gain" that those newbies who don't know about this, and don't have any serious defense anyway, would be easier to raid.

You don't need a key alt. They should at least change it so we can reclaim master keys when they are found like we use to.
