Not everyone can play 15 hours per day. You're contradicting yourself. Though it's not even an argument.

Going on that logic anyone with a laptop and access to a starbucks has an unfair advantage, because they can play in their lunch break , or whenever they can get some internet access if not constantly (mobile internet wooo). In the end if someone has the time to nolife the game they'll do it one way or another, the only real thing to decide would be how functional the client could ever possibly be on mobile. I'd not risk any sort of combat situation on a mobile, but for doing chores / checking on sickly animals it'd definetly be nice.

Of course this isn't something I'd expect the devs to work on anytime soon because quite frankly the game is there, it'd be a big thing if they'd even let a client on a different platform connect , so if someone else codes it, wouldn't be too horrible.

It's allowing more access, yes some people are limited. Some have limits to bandwidth, so well never be elders. Sucks for them. That's life. ..but an app to interact with the game would be great, the only issue would be of they allowed something a player could NOT do in the game otherwise.

The idea is the more connected to the game thru the day, the moree involved the player base is, the more the game will thrive.

I don't think you quite understand how difficult on all fronts this would be to implement and balance with the current game. You are also basically letting people to never be put in the stocks as one example.

The amount of man hours needed would be better served improving the game

Shooting down every idea because you don't see a personal use for it, does not mean it does not have merit. This idea appeals to most respondents (think everyone but you).

Of course i think we all realize that this would be a large undertaking. But ideas help the devs guide the future of the game. I don't think any game has followed is original development road map from pre-launch thru the years. Player base and their desires change.

I like the idea, do i think it'll happen? Probably thru some third party with MM blessing, because it is a large undertaking.

But hey, thru discussion and interest that party may step forward, who knows.

using the words "salem" and "app" in one sentence should be a permaban offense... srsly "apps" are for little rich apple kids without brain, lets not resort to such a thing..

Windows programs are called applications :P Apps for short. So wether you like it or not we're playing salem on an app that's a VM running salem. Ban the devs? ¦]

As for the whole no stocks thing and so on, I would presume the client would connect the same as any other client. So if you're brainless enough to connect while in deep darkness and the app is designed to just study, you'd be online and draining and your own fault if you KO. I'm sure it'd be doable by a 3rd party. Just throw in the inventory/humours/proficiencies modules without map rendering. A few indicators to display what darkness you're in and so on, and it'd be quite doable. Obv insanity would still go up as well as any other effect you'd get from being logged on, with the downside that you can't pick flowers or whittle really, at best study.

The reason I'm shooting down the idea is because it would be abused, not fun, dangerous for people to use while in game, not to mention the incredible advantage people would gain to take the grind into a literal no life situation. The entire game would need a overhaul to accommodate a mobile device depending on how far you want to take it.

I could reap insane benefits for this but it's a terrible idea.

The amount of time it would take to develop and balance would put salem into a very large brick wall of stale/no development. The bug testing alone would be a massive head ache. The devs are a small team and their resources are precious so to speak. They are already operating in a small market and know 1st hand what happens when this game is essentially "dead". JC and co were the ONLY people playing on the master race server during the time jorb and loftar were working on haven2 instead of salem. Look at what happened during JC's well deserved break and lack of major updates. The game gets rough without fresh content to keep people interested. Skype chat's have been going crazy since JC started posting again after they have been dead and depressing for some time.

App is a commonly used term thats typically for mobile devices. If you are talking about applications on a computer the term commonly used is software.

I agree with Dallane here. Being able to check your base or if you're in the stocks or whatever without actually logging in is a pretty serious advantage. Unless we're also going to provide some sort of information on the character account page that does the same thing you want this app to do, it doesn't seem fair.
