Okay here's a rundown of the drama/possible bug/funny Claeyt bashing hilarity:
1. I was out exploring with my mapper in the deeep darkness. His biles were varied around 14-20. I had been KO'd a couple of times (once by a cougar with thorn flowers on me) but had always been able to run to some food quick before the drain got me and either port to town to eat up to full health. I didn't really care about this character on Popham. His only goal was to look for statues.
2. This is where it all went down. The darkness level (control D) was around 13 in the summer and 21 in the winter.

3. So I decided to pop back on the character and try for another corner. I logged in town and ported to my lean-to full of berry straws and some meat dishes, ready for adventure and mapping. Immediately I saw that there were 2 dakenbears on top of my lean to. One of them instantly agro'd me and roared (which on a darkenbear actually ports you to him), the other one then agro'd with his roar and ping ponged me back to him, this happened around 5 times until I ko'd from fear.
4. I then KO'd and respawned maybe 20 times to the darknebears on top of my lean-to for about half an hour. They weren't able to ping pong me 5 times again due to me only having 5 health at this point but they were able to break my leg so that I couldn't run anymore. They slowly wandered to the North a bit finally so that they wouldn't instantly agro me.
5. At this point I tried to limp to the South while gathering enough food to port to town. I unfortunately didn't see that there was a heard of Argopelters just South of me and 2 of them agro'd me as I stumbled back North. I limped back into the darkenbears 20 sec North in the hope that the argo's would have agro'd the bears and killed them after KO'd me (giving me a couple of free darkenbears to butcher

), unfortunately they don't agro them apparently. So the bears roar/ported me again and Ko'd me again.
6. Now the 2 argopelters were at my lean-to that I had just ran past to the darkenbears and they instantly agro'd me and KO'd me around another 20 times.
7. At this point all the nearby food had been eaten and of course I couldn't log-off normally. Luckily a friend told me that if I logged off the server I would not be agro'd upon and that after 45 min or so I'd despawn with the rest of the spawns in the spawn area since I wasn't on any claim. This miracously worked.
8. I logged on an hour later to test that the area had really despawned and was instantly attacked by 4 rats which you can not run away from with a broken leg. So now I was diseased, in the darkness with a broken leg. I logged off for the day after a rather ignominious mapping session.
9. The next day I was able to log on with no animals on top of me, but I kept KO'ing due to darkness. Luckily you don't lose skill points to darkness KO. The problem I had was that I only had 4 yellow with the broken leg and It wasn't enough to port to town with. So I started to gather food but not eat it. Instead I slowly hobbled it back towards my lean-to and dropped it around the area on the ground and into the nearby stump. When I thought I had enough I gathered it up, grabbed the berries in the stump and started to port while continually eating. I had to wait to the last possible moment to eat before KO'ing to drain so as to keep the 4 points of yellow up. With my last berry I hit 95% porting and succeeded in getting to Popham diseased and with a broken leg.
10. After curing the disease, and setting the leg I walked out of Popham looking for new adventures. I'll probably wait a bit before I go back that deep again. Maybe I'll get up to 30 across instead. This was by far the hardest thing I ever had to do in Salem. The food drop/stump hoard thing alone took me maybe 30 Ko's to gather up enough. Safe and sound in a new lean-to in the light, the mapping continues.

This is why some of us love Salem so much MagicMan. It's all grind, even in the Darkness Drain, KO'ing and Dying.
Honestly I'm most surprised that the Darknebears didn't kill me in all of those KO's. Their perma-death chance is less than I thought.
