So, after *playing* before and after the patch for a while, I wanted to give some feedback -- mainly because this patch must have been a lot of work and there is a lot of negativity in this thread about it...
As a relatively new-ish player, I like it.

The whispers are well done on a sound-level, and I love the creative phrases. I hadn't even looked at the forum before the roll out, so when they first started happening, I had no idea what was going on. LOL, I play with headphones, so they scared the bejeeezus out of me. AFTER reading about the patch, I realised my insanity was going up because I was wearing the Wicked mask thingr. LOL, I freaked out and dropped it in the river. (Now that I'm trying to raise Cloak and Dagger, I kinda wish I had kept it, but it is what it is...)
My favorite moments so far...
"I will consume them all", literally happened right before I clicked on the fork to enter gluttony mode. Awesome.
"I think I left a gate open." I had, in fact, left a gate open. And, someone destroyed one of my drying racks while I was gone. (I think this was partially to be a helpful poke on the shoulder, because they didn't take anything...I hadn't laid down a claim yet, but had built walls. Also, to the person who damaged my stone walls just to do it -- I hope you stub your toe).
I will not, in fact, be drinking the milk of lime. Just FYI.

To those who are crying...it's...stop being like that. I actually have a few levels of insanity. Studying inspirationals, cooking, sleeping, and whittling as part of normal play is keeping my level fixed in place. I haven't really had to do anything, and I marathon-play. I mean, I picked flowers ONCE, to play with the effect...then threw them in the compost bin. Overall, it helps with the alt-bot issue and adds a nifty aspect to the game. Honestly, I'm "stuck" in that it will take me a while to get the silver to buy a pipe and some tobacco, but you don't hear me whining. Generally, its just been fun. I suppose the only people who would have a problem with it are those who like to run around and kill en-masse. But, one bard playing your psycho death-music and you're fine. Also, I hope you rot in hell, you ignorant savages.

So, I played once a looong time ago, and came back recently. I LOVE what you guys have done. The game is way more fun now.
This ALL must have been a LOT of hard work over the years. And, its not pay-to-play? To John and all the Devs: Thanks!!!
The music and sound abience is really well done. That doesn't get said enough.
Only negative thing I have to say? I'm a builder player. I play this because I like building a claim, and making it "pretty". The only downside is defense. Keep in mind, I'm still "new" and don't fully understand how this works, but I feel like I have to build a crap ton of torch-posts/braziers to keep raiders at bay (and even then, not out, from what I'm reading, it seems like there is no such thing as an impenetrable claim). All I can hope is to eventually make it enough of a pain in the butt for them that with what they can see, they decide I'm not worth the trouble. But, they'll probably do it anyway. Which, I only CARE because it takes up a lot of space and makes my claim "ugly". But, that's me being nit-picky.
Unlike others, I like the permadeath. It makes me give a crap. Higher emotional investment, or however you want to put it.
Otherwise, I'd like to be social. Except, so many players are hostile. I get molested almost every time I go to Providence. Some witch curse or larceny. LOL. NOT a complaint, just saying. So, I get into town, sell my stuff, and get the hell out. Because of permadeath, I don't even talk to people. It'll be my luck, I'll be chatting and laughing then BAM, clubbed over the head. Between the coughing and the blood-stains and skeletons....yeah, I'm in and out, mano. A newbie fart in the air-conditioning.
I'm an amateur coder myself, so a lot of times, people don't get the "back-end" of things. I see that a lot in the suggestions/complaints. Only positive suggestions I would make:
Perhaps more decorative items for the claims, that give positive effects? (I'd build them even if I didn't. And I know this wastes valuable claim space, but like I said, I'm a builder-player). Then again, I know making skins for these things is a lot of work...this could play into role-play too. A big cross makes witches wanna hit you up. A stone pentacle boosts witchcraft but makes the non-witch players mark you a target? A small, small fountain that speeds the rate of garden-pot growth? A bench or two that lower the cost of study when sat upon? I dunno, just throwing stuff out there.
And, maybe increase the house interior sizes a bit? You'll prolly tell me to build more houses if I want more floorspace, I get it. But with beds and what not, I just like doing interiors all fancy like.
Just my two cents.
Great work!
