After playing with this patch all day I can say you guys are making a big deal over nothing. This patch is directly tiered to get harder for top players. Besides the blood moon the easiest ways to go insane are seeing darkness monsters and doing direct known actions like wringing turkeys, skinning frogs and licking boards. I played for hours and never hit madness level one. Simply foraging for flowers, whittling a little bit and some other easy tasks that you probably do any ways will make insanity a non-factor. Anybody building bases in the darkness or chopping trees in the darkness are the ones that have to worry about this stuff and they probably have tobacco anyways. It's much less harsh on noobs than disease and you'd almost have to try hard to actually die of it. I don't know why any recruit would quit over this, it's barely a chore and it adds a ton of spice to the game.

Speaking of these items from Insanity like 'The Precious', the shovel thingy or any of the other physical objects you get during psychotic episodes, Has anybody actually found a use for them yet? Are there any craftable items from them? Do they do anything besides grief your stuff and whisper to you?

As i've said multiple times. I do not cook, Pot flowers, PICK FLOWERS, Whittle something unneeded nor catch butterflies. I am effectively forced to do so. I have the option to smoke a tobacco everytime i gain madness however without any word on if we actually lose insanity etc its very hard to be motivated to play for any stretch of time.

I absolutely abhor the idea of timing my gametime.

The little spice gets old mighty fast im sure. This system needs alot of work for me to think its a good one. The fact you think its fun to watch your character "whittle" to reduce the Oh so awesome spice of the game is the epitome of insanity imo.

Oh and if you tell someone "This is a permadeath game with tons of advanced mechanics to worry about, crafting, sandbox, pvp game, but oh dont stay still reading or thinking too hard ingame cuz every Second you do your insanity meter that you dont see is actually going up that you need to reduce by doing chores you may or may not need. And should you gain madness your only cure is spending more time to gather enough silver to pay for your smoking."

You could just use a trumpet every now and then.

Insanity as it is now, is ok i guess.

Picking flowers is a waste of everyones time, just catch butterflies that you release from the Butterfly Conservatory, easy as that.

but it's really an unnecessary burden to put it into use against everyday stuff.
i like mining for example, would hate to catch butterflies every 5 mins just to keep the insanity down, and fairly sure none did that back in the days.

and if some sort that a small amount of insanity was gained from mining in the future then please enable some sort of light source in mines that stops it,
or introduce a canary bird that one can feed / pat instead of being forced to do stupid stuff like catching butterflies or picking flowers >_<

Please don't forget that it's not hard to got ~15 seeds from a field, which means that you can become an effective plantator just with a simple geode set and plantation managament skill. It would be nice if only the true plantators could grow magnificent tobacco.
And my voice for the insanity update since I live in darkness, have some fellow serpents, play a lot, have no tobacco (except for some fresh invisible stuff in the rack) and stay completely sane. No problems with the patch and a nice comfortable bed in addition.

You clearly have ever done this to see how much inspiration you lose.

I fail to see the relevancy of your post with what was quoted. But if it would help i've never seen the inside of a "benefits office". And dunno how it works in your country but in Finland theres no fat bums outside the "benefits office".

Sup all,

I'm new to the forums and kind of new to the game.
I was honestly loving it until this INSANITY patch came out.

It annoys me how easy it is to gain INSANITY and how frustrating it
can be to lose it. I go and pick flowers to try and lower it and I get
"Itchy Britches" ok, So i'll just re-equip all my stuff then figure I
have to "Resist Itch" (a few times over) to finally be able un-equip
the Itchy leaf (hmm ain't too keen no more on flower picking after
that ordeal). I know! I'll go widdle a pile of timber for a while to try
and suppress the INSANITY, oh! there's a Timber Terror Fetish now
that has come to annoy me as well as decrease my Hammer & Nail
proficiency! YAY!! not too keen on using that advised method to
decrease INSANITY either. Plus, these annoying encounters happen way to
often to ever be considered as a remotely realistic experience of gameplay.
So, the honest best way to gain SANITY is to "use a trumpet" well sure! i'll
just go grab some tier 3 golden corn oil and materials and go make one!! sweet!

Look Guys, For a half noobie that was quietly working away and having fun to being
annoyed by voices and all these frustrating events (even termites in plank stacks
frequently eating your just acquired planks). I find all of this a bit over the top.
I got my high INSANITY level stupidly by trying to recycle resources
(licked moldy boards) -_- yeah I know trololol and all that.

I'm starting to not enjoy this game as much due to this patch. I find it a
chore just to try and get my character back to a normal state and it's getting annoying.
I get the feeling you are trying to deter people from wanting to play it with all these
new updates (it's that annoying).

If this INSANITY patch is to stay, May I please suggest a more easier method of obtaining
SANITY. Like simply being in a 9x9 square radius presence of a roaring fire (finding it soothing)
or a few similar basic things to make it easier on us hard working noobsters. Even introduce
a Psychiatrist to Boston, Clearing your INSANITY level for 500 silver or something.

Glad to get that off my chest..

Cheers! 8-)

I'm a very casual player so my observations may be off, but it seems to me that beyond 100-ish humors it's the availability of inspirationals rather than inspiration that bottlenecks the skill increase pace. So using up a tiny bit of it to play a trumpet shouldn't be a big deal.
