What about doing hard manual labor underground in the darkness and presence of bats do you think would NOT cause your character to go insane? Perhaps some little torch on a wall you can put down there which slows the rate of insanity buildup? I just don't see any 'soothing' actions taking place in that industry.

Finding a vein is always cool, I suppose :)

Feeling at ease with the flicker of the flame on the miners hat, The Chipping sound as the pickaxe hits the rubble, The Joy of finding a vein, The joy of working hard.

Just add high insanity events for cave ins & cavedowns? :)

TBH this has gone to far in an attempt to stop botting / AFK'er, it's going to be a nightmare to recruit people to play this game.
it's already quite hard to do and insanity won't make it easier, add more insanity to mines would be even worse idea imho (ofc those people that already have a lvl 8 or 9 mine wants it implemented)

What i was proposing was that we'd have single events that give a bit of insanity whilst still calming ourselves with chipping stone/rubble/ore/finding veins.

We have massive insanity from blood moon.
we should have seasons increase/decrease it too.
Like spring is giving a new wind of refreshment so insanity gain is halved (passive i mean)
and in autumn because depression is doubled
So net gain is the same but we have some variation from season.

Or we can get double in autumn and maybe some slow decease in spring ?

Tried to recruit 15 people who were interested pre patch in Salem from my multi-gaming guild through slack onto Salem, one of them ended up linking the insanity patch notes, not one of them joined Salem.

They are all currently playing Tree of Life with me or ARK, gg

After playing with this patch all day I can say you guys are making a big deal over nothing. This patch is directly tiered to get harder for top players. Besides the blood moon the easiest ways to go insane are seeing darkness monsters and doing direct known actions like wringing turkeys, skinning frogs and licking boards. I played for hours and never hit madness level one. Simply foraging for flowers, whittling a little bit and some other easy tasks that you probably do anyways will make insanity a non-factor. Anybody building bases in the darkness or chopping trees in the darkness are the ones that have to worry about this stuff and they probably have tobacco already. It's much less harsh on noobs than disease and you'd have to try to actually die of it. I don't know why any recruit would quit over this, it's barely a chore and it adds a ton of spice to the game.

Meanwhile, speaking of these items from Insanity like 'The Precious', the shovel thingy or any of the other physical objects you get during psychotic episodes, Has anybody actually found a use for them yet? Are there any craftable items from them? Do they do anything besides grief your stuff and whisper to you?
