I think the curve in frequency for when events happen are pretty well balanced tbh.

Any hints on making our shovels useful again?

If your shovel is questionably effective, it is more likely that it has always been questionably effective and in a moment of lucidity from your maddened state, you realized it. Maybe it's time for you to buy a real shovel, you kook.

Its happened to a steel shovel within our village, and a steel shovel to a friend.

Smells like bullcrap to me, a steel shovel is as real as they get.

EDIT: I can understand this happening to a wooden or a pig iron one, but not a steel one.

It is important to realize that in the land of Salem Insanity might not be as you think it is. Insanity manifests itself into reality and the wild thoughts, dreams, and actions of a madman can leave real and lasting effects on the world. Marp can explain it better :)

I know you -think- that it was a steel shovel. No less, I'm sure, your entire village could vouch that it was so. However, I would not rush too quickly to relying on these proclamations as evidence, for surely mass hysteria has proved time and again that the anguished mewling of the many can often be the subject of mental distress. Clearly the only evidence we have is the existence of a questionably effective shovel, which said "steel" shovel must always have been.

I realize the revelation may be a difficulty for you. Often when we realize the reality we believed in and relied upon is actually false, it's jarring to say the least. But I'm sure you'll come around eventually.

Or if you want to look at it another way - it got wet and now the handle is warped. Honistly just be glad they have not added regular tool ware...yet, because you know if they get enough tears from this then it will only encorage them to milk us for more  .
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
