Being your first post doesn't invalidate what you've said. The problem with first posters is that they often have no clue what they are talking about and you are no exception, I'm sorry to say. You argue that you want toys and religious inspirationals to reduce insanity. Well, I guess this is your lucky day because ALL inspirationals reduce it and if you'd read the OP, you would know that. :/

Of course things like pulling a tail off a salamander increase insanity, have you heard them scream? Of course seeing strange and monstrous creatures increases insanity as does using certain recreational drugs. And yes, simply being in a strange new world full of mysterious and unknown new things is frightening and builds your insanity over time. This 'bustling port town' isn't THAT civilized compared to the utterly tamed countryside of England that all of you are used to. Especially when 'bustling' in this case means that His Majesty sends about one ship a month, tops.

But if you think our choices for increasing insanity need work, then by all means suggest some additional ones. Just what do you think makes sense within the bounds of the game's mechanics? Just what do you think terrifies people irl? I suppose you've made a good argument for adding insanity when seeing a spider...

Heff, I hope you are on good way making your own tobacco fields by now, because once you got the tobacco production going you'll be perfectly set to afk chatting for as long as you want while you puff your pipe.

Edit: JC should totally sneak in a pipe that doesn't wear down in one of the item shop packs, perfect for the sitting duck players, I'm imagining a fancy ivory pipe for that purpose. *nods nods*

Not for seeing a spider… but having a spider ambush you while farming cobwebs definitively should!

Yes I have plans for a non-wear pipe on the store. I was thinking peace pipe... But maybe ivory pipe is better... hmm....

I haven't experienced everything there is yet but the grind is starting to get to me. Anything that really has me focusing on a few other things to make the game interesting is all good by me.

Just to be clear for everyone,

I'm not complaining about the insanity mechanic all that much. After playing with it for a bit I'm comfortable that it's harder to die from insanity than it is from disease and less of a pain in the ass if you get to a few madness levels. I mean there's only one cure and it doesn't become less effective the more insane you are like with disease. Also noobs kind of have to really work to become insane. Higher end players have to deal with insanity much more than noobs because of darkness, turkeys, frogs etc. Tobacco will be cheap on the stalls soon also. The only real problems I have with it is that there needs to be more ways to lower madness levels besides tobacco and hookah's. Something noobs can do easy, like swimming in the ocean or something. Also I'm afraid Blood moon is going to really be a problem if it adds too many madness levels and people start burning through their inventory and stuff like that without knowing what's going on, while not having access to Tobacco. But overall the mechanic is sort of interesting.

The game is grindy but honestly once you get a decent town up with defense it's not too bad. I've built/maintained/been part of upwards of 11 towns now and I still love the game as much as the persons who bought it so it wouldn't die. They and I just have different views on how much griefing is required to make the game fun. I'm here to remind them that not everyone plays the game like they did/does and that they're not always right.

AkuTenshiiZero wrote:This game is shaped to attract a specific type of gamer, and from the new players, only that kind will remain.

The new players are indeed a bit out in the open, basicaly because they lack the information or access to it. When things settle down, and the patches are less frequent, I think there will be a stable wiki, and maybe books in game. Maybe we, as a community should work on that more.

This game is waay too specific to certain types of players. Good games keep those players interested but also keep it fun for casuals/non-pvp/beginners or anyone who just wants to try it out. There has to be a balance between noobs learning the game and veterans who've played forever and when those two types meet. I don't think the dev's have quite found that place yet but maybe expeditions will bounce the griefers over to there for awhile.

Some of us will be taking the opportunity to grief during the expedition =)

I really enjoy this patch, even if I got at madness 1 (I think by licking some boards "mmm they taste so good :)") and I got to meet "The Precious", which is always saying nice things to me. Now I'm waiting for my tobacco to grow and try it.
And the beds are so comfy *-*

With all the teasers of how Insanity will work with Animal Husbandry, I can't wait to see it in place.

Will the Timekeeper have other uses, because even though the white hair is cool, it feels a bit useless.

I'm sure they will but Expeditions have been advertised as being more PvP than Providence for awhile now and as long as noobs are given the choice and the information as to which one they want to join (Dangerous Expdition vs Casual Safer Providence) I think it'll be fine. It's a great way to give the PvP heavy vets a release. Many games have done the same thing with PvP/Full Loot/Full Kill servers. Ultima, Everquest, didn't they both have hardcore servers? I think it's a great idea to have a more dangerous server that's designed to be long term but temporary while also having a very long term safer server like Providence. I think Lorbtar should've done that with Roanoke and Jamestown and made them a full PvP server with a much smaller map and limited resources to make sure everyone was near each other. They could have then made their original server safer for casuals and noobs to enjoy the game in a different way.

My greatest hope for the game is that the PvP's have a blast killing each other in Plymouth while Providence gets bigger and bigger and whole cities of players grow massive towns full of Pilgrims playing together. I'll probably try out both and I hope to have my first death during the Expedition.

Also, you're absolutely right. I can only imagine what the game population would have been like if we hadn't had griefer assholes like 'The Chief' running around one-hit/killing noobs all the time. We'd probably have had a nice solid player base for the 'lesser' dev's to grow the game in a bad way and maybe we'd still even have a game publisher attached to the game and thousands of noobs trying it out from their site.

So, you've realized now that you were wrong and that no one finds it worthwhile to kill newbies anymore thanks to our brilliant game changes? I accept your apology.

I'll admit that less noobs are killed than when 'The Chief' was griefing everyone he could find. That's true. I suppose you could call that a brilliant game change.

Also I doubt killing noobs has ever been about it being worthwhile. It's about Griefing someone who can't fight back.

Claeyt wrote:Why is making bed bolt holes around your base now a thing? It still doesn't stop people from one hit KO'ing a 50 stat mid level player without fear of a TbC. That mid level guy can never win that TbC, just harass them with it and the stockades if they have the money.

As for pocket watches, I've killed thousands of rabbits and maybe a hundred March Hares this world and I've yet to get a pocket watch.

'Bolt hole beds' are not a thing afaik and I wouldn't recommend doing such a silly thing to anyone but you. Personally, I might build one or two beds outside because I have a couple hunting grounds that are many minutes from my base, but those beds would mainly be for convenience. Most of the time, you're going to want to use other methods to escape since logging out in a known location is often a bad idea if someone really wants to kill you and that was always true.

I know you're talking out of your ass about the rabbits. If you really had killed that many rabbits and march hares, you'd have several tiny pocketwatches. Several. We've also given away so many of them, and I laughed every time as Darwoth was seemingly the only person on the server to realize the true value of those things and buy them by the cartload.

I'm not talking out of my ass about the Rabbits. Darwoth also just said a few pages back that he's never found a pocket watch out in the wild and that he's bought or gotten every one of his from the mailman. Are pocket watches supposed to be super rare? I've never found one and I'm sure I've killed over 1000 rabbits. I've always wondered why pocket watches and cricket fiddles are so rare off them. They're not that good as inspi's. Why not make them more common for noobs to find. Vets just buy them.

If it makes it safer for noobs why not just let them find them more off Rabbits? It'd make up for them not being able to log off for safety a bit and it's a fun mechanic in the game.

Turkey goes in box. Turkey dies in box. You find dead turkey and cook it..... Why wring a neck just plan ahead a little. I left a couple of my good turkey's in a box last night waiting on their fate. I am sure they will be dead soon. Problem solved... as for frogs make froghetts not frog legs.

This^^^

Also it's probably going to be the least changing list of any NPC. Why not have him sell and let us build clocks that we can hang on walls. Maybe they could sound off every hour if we're hanging out inside our houses and lessen our madness if we hear them. Coo Coo Clocks, Grandfather clocks, tons of options.

Also why are lilypads so damn rare now? I was hoping we'd see tons of lily pad bridges all over Salem soon but they're selling for thousands now, why not make them easy to find?
