I think this is going nowhere and fast. This patch added things that some people like and some people don't like, basicaly, just like any patch that tempers with player interaction. For me, the logout timer is ok, but I hate a bit the teleportation timer, it looks too much like dead time, even if it is a time to be careful and fear for your character more than other times. I preferd the 10/20 min.

I love this game and I play alot in my free time, even if I go slow. There were many things I hated when patches got released, but I continued playing. I believe that noone who realy likes this game and has the WILL to adapt, will quit. Many people that complain about the mechanic will accept it, and I know that they already know that too. This game is shaped to attract a specific type of gamer, and from the new players, only that kind will remain. It already has a design and we are here to TEST and prove if
the direction is ok or not. Here we express our opinion, but the devs have the statistics and I think they know what to look for. Plus, it's their vision of the game, they are quite ok for letting in our suggestions.

The new players are indeed a bit out in the open, basicaly because they lack the information or access to it. When things settle down, and the patches are less frequent, I think there will be a stable wiki, and maybe books in game. Maybe we, as a community should work on that more.

All these things already do lower insanity. I appreciate your concerns but it looks like you are jumping to conclusions without fully testing the system, and/or simply relying on patch notes to be fully comprehensible of every little change which they never are. Your idea about getting a cross-shaped wood splinter seems solid though.

Very well said. I do think it will be nice for us to step away after expeditions if even for a few months so the community can 'adapt' and 'learn' the full depth and intention of ALL the systems and how we plan for them to work together. There is always a big picture that the players don't get (I.E. Playing with your Animal Husbandry animals to lower insanity) etc. etc. etc. But we cannot simply go years without updates and drop a hot mess that crashes for weeks on end so instead we get 80% finished systems that always tend to make a 'little' bit more sense as the final systems are put in place.

Even the stocks were 'less harsh' for months because we knew eventually we would have a penalty for being online for example.

not sure, but im at madness/insanity/whatever lvl3 and did like a few hours of whittling/collecting resources today to produce like 100-150 torchposts and im still lvl3 :?

again: i have not fully tested the system yet but i believe hours or work should erase ur insanity.

Because you are lowering your insanity and not your madness level.

You can only lower your insanity, not your madness through those things. To lower your madness you will need to smoke tobacco.

To change a level you have to smoke, doing whittling just maintains current level. Read patch notes better Heff XD

AkuTenshiiZero wrote:My problem with this system is not that it exists, but that it seems highly skewed towards building up than reducing. Killing a turkey? Really? So I'm going to go slightly insane because I want to have a hearty feast? Half the things on the list just don't make any sense, it's not like we're witnessing Shub-Niggurath waltzing down the street, we're living in the woods a few hours walk from a major port town. And things like pulling a salamander tail or cutting open a caterpillar...Again, really? These are the actions of a scholar studying the local fauna, not the whims of a madman.

It seems to me that it was very poorly thought out, especially in the methods to reduce insanity. Again, I'd have an easier time accepting this system if it made some sense. Why is it that actions that should be joyful do not reduce insanity? We have an entire section of toy inspirationals, why doesn't it reduce insanity to use one? Most greivous is the fact that actions related to faith do nothing to reduce insanity. Reading a Bible and using a crucifix should calm the spirit and remind pilgrims that God is protecting them. Finding a cross-shaped splinter should dump insanity to zero as you've witnessed a miracle. Simply having a high level of Faith & Wisdom should reduce the rate of insanity gain, as you are not only steeled in spirit but also have the wisdom to look upon the harsh wilderness with reason.

And furthermore, how exactly does it make sense to be slowly going insane in a town surrounded by familiar faces? I mean for a hermit like me to be going nuts I understand, but when you're part of a community you shouldn't be losing your mind.

Again, it's not that this is a bad idea as a system, it's just horribly thought out and doesn't make any sense. I don't think it should have gone live before it was further fleshed out.

Oh, hey, first post. I expect that nullifies everything I just said, as per forum tradition.

I am pretty sure JC said all you have to do is study something every once in a while..... Meat scraps... I always have something minor on me to study... Why do the rest of you not..

I played for about 4 hours last night. I only notice one chip in a mask over the course of the entire time... Why are people having issues with this? I think I heard a voice one time and it was in town. Kinda thinking it was not even a madness level.

A lower player is constantly studying. I think the only characters that this will effect of mine is my in town wrought iron bar alts and who cares if you lose something that useless...

Umm...those things reduce insanity only. You need to smoke tobacco or a hookah to lower madness levels.
As if I care.
