I remember JC once said he does not like the whole idea of alts, lets take a look:

1.) NEW: with this patch, introductions of chatting alt, has to be either maintained or replaced every 30 or so hours

2.) removal of 10/20 minutes CDs in favour of 40 sec timer = go use alts again to get your lime, clay and stuff that does not belong to you!

3.) introduction of weight-based inventory with up to 1024 items in it = go make a lowbie alt with just enough carry capacity to hold those 1024 light items you want to store

4.) meat smokers for higher levels only, as that is were they are useful, in making alts, raiding alts, combat alts, murder alts, witchcraft alts, tree chopping alts...

5.) beds to nullify insanity for all those alts that you dont use 24/7

...and I surely missed some thing here! :D

Also, you're absolutely right. I can only imagine what the game population would have been like if we hadn't had griefer assholes like 'The Chief' running around one-hit/killing noobs all the time. We'd probably have had a nice solid player base for the 'lesser' dev's to grow the game in a bad way and maybe we'd still even have a game publisher attached to the game and thousands of noobs trying it out from their site.

So, you've realized now that you were wrong and that no one finds it worthwhile to kill newbies anymore thanks to our brilliant game changes? I accept your apology.

Claeyt wrote:Why is making bed bolt holes around your base now a thing? It still doesn't stop people from one hit KO'ing a 50 stat mid level player without fear of a TbC. That mid level guy can never win that TbC, just harass them with it and the stockades if they have the money.

As for pocket watches, I've killed thousands of rabbits and maybe a hundred March Hares this world and I've yet to get a pocket watch. Why are they so rare anyways, they only give a speed boost or a one use inspi. They and cricket fiddles are waaay to rare for their actual use potential. Why not make them less rare so that noobs can actually find them and be a little safer after testing one or two.

'Bolt hole beds' are not a thing afaik and I wouldn't recommend doing such a silly thing to anyone but you. Personally, I might build one or two beds outside because I have a couple hunting grounds that are many minutes from my base, but those beds would mainly be for convenience. Most of the time, you're going to want to use other methods to escape since logging out in a known location is often a bad idea if someone really wants to kill you and that was always true.

I know you're talking out of your ass about the rabbits. If you really had killed that many rabbits and march hares, you'd have several tiny pocketwatches. Several. We've also given away so many of them, and I laughed every time as Darwoth was seemingly the only person on the server to realize the true value of those things and buy them by the cartload.

Ok now, nice joke JC, logged my char out in a bed like TWO HOURS ago, had ZERO insanity level, and now I logg back in getting voices and by the short look I took before logging out again through the use of a bed, I'd say it's madness level 9 instead!

Well surely somebody would need to be maximum insanity to pretend that I am doing things to facilitate alts no? Seems legit. Not to mention how insane somebody would have to be to pretend like a logout timer is a bad idea.

Definitely going to want to take care of that.

JC to appease the masses I think you should add an easy way to immediately lower insanity for experienced players. Allow them to add an addition to their bed that has ropes and a straight-jacket. At which point they can lock their character down immediately lowering all levels of insanity but making the character immobile for a small amount of time (one week). To obtain the straight-jacket all they have to do is constantly complain about all the changes you make to the game. Of course as complaints come in you can then add a gag as well (ban from the forums.).

I don't understand the complaints about new stuff especially from veterans. I have been playing for few months now and have progressed well into the game. I haven't experienced everything there is yet but the grind is starting to get to me. Anything that really has me focusing on a few other things to make the game interesting is all good by me.

My problem with this system is not that it exists, but that it seems highly skewed towards building up than reducing. Killing a turkey? Really? So I'm going to go slightly insane because I want to have a hearty feast? Half the things on the list just don't make any sense, it's not like we're witnessing Shub-Niggurath waltzing down the street, we're living in the woods a few hours walk from a major port town. And things like pulling a salamander tail or cutting open a caterpillar...Again, really? These are the actions of a scholar studying the local fauna, not the whims of a madman.

It seems to me that it was very poorly thought out, especially in the methods to reduce insanity. Again, I'd have an easier time accepting this system if it made some sense. Why is it that actions that should be joyful do not reduce insanity? We have an entire section of toy inspirationals, why doesn't it reduce insanity to use one? Most greivous is the fact that actions related to faith do nothing to reduce insanity. Reading a Bible and using a crucifix should calm the spirit and remind pilgrims that God is protecting them. Finding a cross-shaped splinter should dump insanity to zero as you've witnessed a miracle. Simply having a high level of Faith & Wisdom should reduce the rate of insanity gain, as you are not only steeled in spirit but also have the wisdom to look upon the harsh wilderness with reason.

And furthermore, how exactly does it make sense to be slowly going insane in a town surrounded by familiar faces? I mean for a hermit like me to be going nuts I understand, but when you're part of a community you shouldn't be losing your mind.

Again, it's not that this is a bad idea as a system, it's just horribly thought out and doesn't make any sense. I don't think it should have gone live before it was further fleshed out.

Oh, hey, first post. I expect that nullifies everything I just said, as per forum tradition.
