You can call it tears but this is by far the biggest change to this game for this patch. Noob players with basic or no defense had only one way to defend themselves and that was by logging out when they saw another player. Top level players are always going to catch the lower player because they'll have satan salts or stop watches while the mid level or new player won't have them or the running capacity to get away. This mean that many more mid level players are going to get caught out and killed instantly if they don't have walls, and then they'll probably just give up. It helps the greifers waaaaaay to much.

If you're going to keep this just to greif lower players then add these things to help them a bit.

1. Let players KO'd in combat go after 5-10 minutes. Too many griefers are getting people down with their top combat alts and then keeping them in combat for hours just to get their throw away murder alts there to kill them. Make the top players kill them with their top combat alts. Or better yet let people log off while in combat or KO'd while in combat with say a 5 min timer.

2. Make it faster/instantaneos to log off inside a Pclaim. Seconds, not 20 secs. If someone's willing to make a giant Pclaim to be safe, so be it, but there needs to be some safety for minor Pclaim only players with no walls to log off without getting killed over and over by griefers.

3. Make enemy players visible on the regular client radar. It's way to easy to not see someone coming on the standard client.

4. Maybe have an action that lets players, who aren't in combat, instantly log off if they're on top of a claim which is their homestead or a town claim that they belong to but have them KO or go to sleep at they're lean to but with all the KO loss of inspi points. Call it Safe Haven or something.

This entire patch has affected noob and mid level players too much and made the game harder just for them. They can't grow tobacco yet, they can't log off when a 500 stat combat alt wanders up on them and they may not be able to understand the insanity system very well. Too much grief without enough new stuff for them to enjoy.

None of this is valid, because all they need to do is log off INSTANTLY in their bed.

JohnCarver wrote:Insanity points, and Madness levels are two different concepts. You can reduce your insanity points by doing calming things, you can only reduce your madness levels by smoking tobacco.

The patch is far better for the casual player IMO because they are less likely to have long play sessions that extend over multiple madness levels.

This description of insanity and madness needs to be in the patch description on page one.

Casual players have a harder time understanding mechanics. They don't read the forums like the rest of us and they count on the wiki for answers to questions.

Disease has been hard enough for casuals and new players to understand. Insanity's going to be just as hard.

Which means they have to outrun a 500 stat titan, who has satan salts and watches, to their little unwalled claim and leaf bed so that they don't lose a character they just spent 2 days building and learning how to glutton.

At least think about changing the use of murder alts and keeping people in combat for hours so as to get murder alts there. 20 minutes is plenty of time to keep someone in combat while they're KO'd if you want to kill them.

Madness 9 = Voice ever 10-20 seconds.

This also needs to be right up on page one in the Patch description and not buried in the middle of the thread so players can understand what level they're at.

Players have a large graphic at the top of their screen to show them what level they are at.

If you haven't noticed this patch thread has gotten maybe 40 comments like this one from players with less than 100 posts.

sotrans wrote:Right now the insanity system adds more annoyance than pleasure. Also it seems to add a lot of extra difficulty to newbies, while well equipped/skilled characters just need to play their instrument respectively grow some tobacco. Crafting unneeded stuff just to lower insanity is not fun. Also fishing in Salem is not interesting (neither is it relaxing). It definately adds some extra chores, contrary as mentioned. But i'm curious how it develops and so far Salem is a good game. I'm confident.

This new mechanic is interesting but also more chores. I'd much rather have seen it implemented for players going into the darkness and have it centered in the darkness. The first Bloodmoon is going to see a bunch of people not understanding what's going on and losing tons of stuff. The first player who's holding onto a store bought pack when a Blood Moon happens and then 5 minutes later loses it to their inventory burning out is going to ***** and put up another Salem Hate video like that guy who lost a store pack to griefers bringing a bear to Roanoke. That video has thousands of views and is still the top view on some gaming sites when you search Salem on them.

...and Tobacco growing is too high at 104 SnC. Make tobacco cheaper in the kings stall for noobies and casuals, so they can at least attempt to cure madness without shelling out 500s.
