but i want to be a carebear rummager and miner. :'(

and if this is aimed at botters why we get insanity for seeing darkness mobs?

Currently, criminals like to AFk online to avoid being put in the stocks; something we never meant to be a thing.

it was a really obvious result you'd have to have expected though.

curious to see how much of an inconvenience it'll be.

Because it's not aimed specifically at botters. That's just a bonus. I thought John explained it all fairly well in the OP.

To be honest it all sounds very interesting. Adds yet another dimension to our chars.

Now about the masks you mentioned earlier, and the way they reflect our char's mental state, I am not sure i understand. How do they change, exactly?

I just started back last weekend after a tech absence irl, having fun wandering and whatnot, got me a small claim I'm working nubbishly on ...

This will impact my style of play ... I work from home and have sporadic flurries of activity, then park and afk for a bit ... it's not much of an inconvenience to log in and out each time I guess, but it is an inconvenience, which is going to mean that after a little while I'm just going to get the ***** with it as one of those 'chores' you mention ... wasting time sitting and watching the black screen fill, extra clicks and wait time to achieve exactly the same result as I previously achieved. Not only that, if I were to get say caught up in an extended work call and have my character idle for 1-2 hours, all of a sudden I have to go and spend the next 10 minutes doing something mundane and something that I likely otherwise wouldn't do just to avoid the path to permadeath from login time?

I like the concept, and the reasoning behind it, but the madness mechanic seems designed to punish characters of players who aren't able to commit 100% of their resources to the game's chores. Don't know, maybe it won't be as punishing as all that, but this mechanic is going to be a big turnoff to bringing new players on board I think, as it more or less makes the game to risky to invest in for the huge swathe of players that would be classed as more-than-casual but less than nut-brained-hardcore.

EDIT: Addendum, just destroyed a briar thorn thingo, and no briar root dropped. Does this require a skill to be trained in order for the drop to be recognisable?

As your madness increases the graphic will noticeably change. However, I"m quite confident that the custom client guys will probably put in some other meter for y'all anyway.
