Can't install the game.

Postby Danisimo » Thu Nov 08, 2012 2:53 pm

Hey guys. I download the .jnpl file and when i try to run it a CMD window with this error pops up error: could not find or load main class D:\Downloads\salem.jnpl and then it closes. I'm runing on win 7 64 bit and java 7 update 9. I tried reinstalling java but it didn't work. At this point I have no idea what else to do.

Make sure that the file is opening with the proper program. Right click the shortcut and open the properties. On the "Opens with:" line it should say "Java Web Start". If it doesn't, you need to reinstall Java (may have not installed properly) so that .jnlp files are properly associated or manually set it yourself. Thanks for the reply, I had tried to open it with that as well but I received a "Unable to launch application." error and assumed that I was using the wrong thing. I scrolled trough the error code and saw that ESET smart security is denying it access.

Web page:</strong><br>
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;http://plymouth.seatribe.se/java/salem.jnlp</font><br>
<font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><br>
<strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Description:</strong><br>
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Access to the web page was blocked by ESET Smart Security.<br>
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The web page is on the list of websites with potentially dangerous content.</font></p>

I'm assuming this is the important part. I added the salem.jnlp into the exclusions, i added http://plymouth.seatribe.se/java/salem.jnlp into the list of web site exclusions, I disabled HTTP checking, I disabled every protecting function of the anti virus in general including firewall, and i killed the main process of the anti virus from the task manager and still in every situation i got the exact same error. Am i missing something? Is there anything else that i need to add to exclusions? I can open the website from my browser with no problems but the game just won't start.

Yes, I have heard this "ESET" software is blocking our servers for some reason. There's not a lot I can do about that, of course; you'll have to take that up with ESET's makers.

Well that's what exclusions are for right? For some reason i can't bypass the security which is weird. I'l see what they have to say about it.

The site in question, and from your post above I can see that the site is known to contain potentially dangerous content. So Eset is basically just doing its job, protecting your system. Why expose your system for a potential risk , for only playing a game? (You can submit a website to ESET for analysis through this link: How do I submit a virus, website or potential false positive sample to ESET's lab?)

This is the reply i got from the ESET technical support. They're trying to convince me that you're releasing a game containing a virus. Now they obviously think I'm very stupid or are so lazy that they can't even come up with a decent excuse.
In any case both sides blame each other and claim that the other one needs to fix the problem. This is ridiculous.

ESET doesn't play well with Java at all from what I've read, so it's just them with their heads up their asses. They have some sold software in the right application, but not for a home computer (unless you have a teenager you can't keep out of certain "high risk" sites).

Sorry for the double post here.

Danisimo, could you please post that link? Several others are having this same issue with ESET. Maybe if they get more than a few requests on the problem they'll get on it a bit faster.

Well, the obvious solution would be to uninstall ESET. ;)
