I have no issue putting in some decent looking textures supplied by the community. I made a post about how to do just this somewhere. I'm sure it can be found by those looking to contribute.

This post John?
So if people made some different coloured versions of sheds, houses, chests, pots, compost bins, etc you would add a way for us to "tag" them in game so they appear in the different colours.

I would dearly love to have some options to colour things differently. More freedom to customise the spaces we create for ourselves is one of the few aspects i think salem does poorly in compared to some other sandboxes i've played, and in my opinion should be made more of a priority than it has been. Paint is a good option. I've thought many times that i'd like things like sheds, chests, hovels etc to be coloured differently depending on what kind of wood is used. I'm really really really excited for more kinds of pavement to come btw! Dyes and paints etc would really take things to a whole new level of awesome.

More carebear stuff in general! Like flower hedges, grassy lawn, and beautiful, beautiful pink pink windmill!

Yes this post,
And yes, the 'work' involved with a project like painting buildings is making sure that the system made sense. I.E. if somebody were to just say "here is a shed painted red with cranberrys" I don't think it would be very reasonable to have the abilityt to right click cranberrys on sheds, and nothing else. Followed by a giant hodgepodge of various coloration stuff where somebody just randomly picked a paint and a building and made a single variation of it.

That being said, I do think that if a way to 'paint' the 'majority' of buildings a specific color was added in a way that didn't look terrible, and was inclusive of 'most' buildings I see no reason why would would shy away from it.

in addition to normal player created colors it would be a fun thing to put on the seasonal stall, every few months a new "rare color" paint comes out on the stall and is only available for that time period.

ultima online had similar with dyes and paints throughout its history, one of the emulators i played would come out with a new color ship paint every few months that would never be available again creating both "legacy" ships and buckets of paint that folks were constantly plotting to steal from one another.
