Experienced it yesterday. It doesn't reduce your proficiencies though. I feel like it's a bug.

same, i was ko'ed by finding my entrance towards Level 2 as well. Unsure whether I lost proficiencies.

My theory is that the wall that I mined which triggered the entrance to the 5th floor also triggered a cave in which happen instantly (bug) and KO'd me. It still doesn't explain why it happened instantly and why I lost no proficiencies when I got KO'd.

There was no cave in my case. I think it's just a surprise gift from uncle Carver to make digging into lower levels more interesting.

No mistake in KO after discovering level enterance, u simply fall down and experience around 200 Blood Bile drop down, if u have mor ethen that u dont get KO. Just did it...
