Ok, for those who have missed this really nice mechanic that got patched out due to we can't ever have nice things...

Imagine you want to make a lot of bricks, you have clay in your inventory and finished bricks in the kilns.
Aim your mouse over a kiln, rightclick open the interface, hold SHIFT, scroll twice, done.
That is much faster than moving your mouse to the kiln, hold ALT in addition to SHIFT, click once, now move your mouse back to your inventory, aim and click while still holding two buttons.
If you find this a minor issue, do it with serveral kilns.
You don't do that?
How about drying frames?!
Unload and refill two dozen drying frames once with scrolling and once with moving the mouse back and forth, and tell me the difference!

There are 3 kinds of things:
- things that can be burned in a kiln
- things that were burned in a kiln
- and all other stuff that has nothing to do with a kiln
Now, why would I want to move the bricks, any already burned item, or stuff that has nothing to do with it into the kiln?
It does not make sense, the only reason to do so is that this mechanic was far too convenient, at least for JCs taste, and that's it.
(And this is true for all other similar containers.)

Therefore:
Don't forget to make it so you can put sh!t back into the meatsmoker, to screw the people even more...
And stuff that was on a drying frame needs to be able to get back there for the ultimate level of stupidity!

I can somehow understand how people wanted to be able to put back stuff into the compost, that container is used differently, you dont unload & refill it like a kiln, drying frame, baking table, meatsmoker, steam distiller...

Anything but the compost should be changed back to how it worked, unfortunately JC is perfectly ok with taking out a well working mechanic to create artificial hardship, which is not a smart move.

Afte all, this is a game, games are meant to be fun, fun is gained in very different ways, you may not see it in the first place, but salem is meant to provide fun to the players in many ways, overcoming challenges and hardships is one way to do that, but you must not mistake necessary difficulty with stupidity.

Adding more senseless clicks and physical grind does not create a challenge, it creates stupidity, promotes bot usage, and confirms the unimaginativeness of the one who did it.

For me, being able to put bricks back into the kiln is a good thing. Remember that you can carry twice your limit if you don't need to move. Simply shift-alt clicking works much faster than the method you're describing now that we have unlimited inventory space. Also, even in the old system you just built one kiln extra so that there was always one empty: dump clay in one, take bricks out of the next - rinse and repeat.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Your tears, I agree with them
I have a hard time keeping my inventory tidy as it is, with the new system it shares similarities with my purse irl now

'twas indeed a nice thing to just scroll stuff out of a structure and scroll the next load of stuff back into it, RIP

I agree that it is no major thing at all, yet, it was faster with scrolling, and the sole point that this was intentionally changed to be worse, is not good.

You may not see it (scrolling, being faster than alt-shift-click) with a kiln or two, but as I described, there were other things, and now it's being made to be all in line, meatsmokers and dryingframes are next...
Load and unload the content of a dozen drying frames with scrolling, then with shift-alt, and tell me what is faster! ;)

This is especially annoying when working with destillers, but for anything except maybe the compost, this is wrong.

[edit:]
As the devs of the custom clients usually not share JCs unbound desire to troll the players, maybe they can put in an option to chose for each of these containers!

Inb4 they remove holding shift to queue next item on cursor, because finery forges are too easy.

A dev of the custom client just thought it was better this way.

I find it VERY difficult to believe that the majority of players actually enjoyed NOT being able to put back their heavy bricks once they pulled too many out. An extra click is far from the latest bit of drama you are trying to make it out to be when it saves you from having to build boxes near your kiln when you pull out too many. I think the bigger problem here is that players over 100 YBILE may take for granted that pulling out even 5 bricks 'too many' when you are at lower biles will snare you and make it very frustrating. Simply putting them back in seemed like a logical choice.

If more people want to chime in I have no problem taking away this nice thing. As I thought it was overly lenient in the first place but only buckled to it due to overwhelming demand.

What I will not tolerate is another post from Taipion pretending the sky is falling or that such minor changes are an "Ultimate level of stupidity".

Learn to post in a respectful manner in my announcement thread, or you will simply be gone.

That's just another "save our clicks" idea - "quick swap" button for kilns, smokers, drying frames, distillators etc.
