[edit:] And now that you gotta "hunt" for ore veins by digging tunnels... can someone give me a rule of thumb about how likely a cavein is, or in other words, can I mine a 1 or 2 tiles wide tunnel without using support beams?

i had 4 cave ins mining out around 200 tiles. just keep the mats for mine support on you to use when the rumbles start.

but mine supports placed in that way can never be removed. If you place them in advance and destroy them after you have finished mining near them, you end up with way more space in your mine.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

When you pick something in your backpack, your current weight is changed; however that doesn't work for base inventory.
...normal ?
Trust your enemies more than your friends. Your enemies will never betray you.

Yes, anything in your hand is considered in your normal inventory, backpack has a weight-reduce on anything placed in it.

is this safe? I build in advance and never destroy because it's just one tile and I cant recover it's material anyways

If you place them in advance, ad the edge of the last beams effect area or slightly further, then you end up with roughly 50% of the beams not being needed as the area is still covered by the others, though there is no 100% guarantee that it wont cause a cavein if you remove one, and since some time the cavein does not appear where the removed tile was, but in front of it, so this might mess up your setting.

1. )
I'd still like to know if you can use the trip hammer with multiple characters simultaneously, anyone knows?

2.)
Assuming a good m&m level and digging only 1 or 2 tiles wide tunnels, are caveins still likely?

I've been doing this since the beginning of time, and I never had a cave in when destroying mine supports that were preemptively placed.

Destroying a mine support that was placed to prevent a cave in (i.e. you only built it when the cave in was happening, right under the falling dust) will apparently almost always spawn a new cave in. I don't actually know this for sure, as I always preemptively place mine.

You are right on this one, I tried it a few times, placing a new mine support right beside the one that stopped a cavein, then waited some time, waited for a server restart... it will always spawn a new cavein when you remove it, as far as I can tell.

So you say a preemptively placed mine support can always be safely removed?

200 m&m and managed to get cavein in 2 wide tunnel about 15 tiles from last support
