On mining

Postby Shadeen » Sun Feb 08, 2015 2:21 pm

I have a large single floor mine, and I can't for the life of me find any iron (or anything but rubble, for that matter). What gives?

And why does every second wall I mine become black and cannot be mined unless I light a fire and let it burn for 2+ hours? Someone said it could be mined without having to light a fire, but my character just walks up to the black wall and does nothing.

Where does (pig) iron come form, after the patch? Are there veins in single-floor mines, or do I have to expand my mine until I find the second level in order to have a chance to find iron?

Is it just me, or is iron much more difficult to come by after the patch?

Yes iron is now much harder to get, and it is also less useful as you need to make it into wrought iron for something and blister steel for others.

No personal experience of the new mining system but what I have been able to gather from reading the forums is that once you find an ore in a mine you will find more in that area, these are "seams". The bits you can't mine unless you have burned a fire by them have a chance to lead you to the next level. I believe it is level 9 that joins mines together, so if you wish to keep your mine private do not mine any tough sections on level 8, sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Iron is actually more common in my opinion. YOu just have to find a vein (silver grey lining embedded in the stone wall).

Thank you for your answers, guys. Very informative. So, I will just have to keep expanding and hope I can fine the first vein, and then it's easier, right?

Cheers!

I was thinking of the OLD old system, before rubble got added, where an iron mine was full of iron.

Indeed, it can be a bit of a pain to find your first vein, but then when you do it does feel pretty rewarding IMO.

no doubt, any ore vein would feel rewarding after 200-300 tiles of rubble...

You're saying "rubble" as it is something bad. Rubble is gold!

Has someone got a screenshot of
a) The tile you need to mine to get the second entrance
b) what the second entrance looks like
c) what the second floor looks like

Thanks!
