As all of my friends know I am a great lover of birds. I am beginning my Big Year and am very excited. For those of you unfamiliar with a Big Year you should check it out.



Birds have been my passion since I was a child. The variety of species, the majesty of nature, the freedom of flight; all of these inflame my imagination. I had a bad childhood and would gaze at the birds outside of my window. I often wished that I could just fly away from the troubles of life and so birds have become a sort of symbol to me of a better life.

A little known fact of Salem is that the Big Year only lasts a week. The migration cycle is very quick. The Resplendent Quetzal is one of my favorite birds. This quetzal plays an important role in Mesoamerican mythologies. The Resplendent Quetzal is Guatemala's national bird, and an image of it is on the flag and coat of arms of Guatemala. It is also the name of the local currency.



While I was searching for this splendid bird I stumbled upon an act of heinous proportions. I am just a peaceful watcher of our feathered friends but I quickly put my Canon EOS 40D 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera to work.



If anyone knows about this event please inform the proper authorities.

My Dearest Adrian,

I have now been in the New World for several months. It is a forbidding land filled with many perils. It is however, filled with a natural beauty that stirs my soul.

The city of Boston is a bustling place filled with people striving to make thier mark in the Americas. There is a wonderous sense of possibility that permeates the very stones. I feel that this is where I will make our dream come true.



I have come to respect the varied peoples of the world who have traversed the oft hazardous sea to create a new life in this foreign land. As for me, I have secured an apprenticeship milling flour that is used to make some of the most delectible treats. Though I believe the people of the Americas to be a trustworthy lot I am at times filled with a sense of apprehension. It is as if I am being watched by a malevolent force. Perhaps I am simply being childish.



My days are filled with toil but my dreams are filled with thoughts of home and of you. In the few moments of respite I have I try to relax as we did as youths in Yorkshire. I recently visited a local beach where I sampled a most delicious fish I had never encountered before.



Adrian my love, I should have the money to secure your passage in a fortnight or two and am breathlessly awaiting our reunion. Until that happy day I think of you as ever...
