Do you actually need a full coop as a hermit? Don't overextend yourself if you have problems with regular upkeep things.

So basically omit a playstyle? Some people like to be hermits. And even if not hermits, what happens if a village has 3 members and all 3 members go on a 1 week vacation or just want to take a few days off the game? Their whole animal farm dies? That's some seriously bad game design.

Things like steel or silk production from H&H that requires you to log in every few hours is terrible. I do hope they avoid such mechanics as much as they can in this game.

And who says that every hermit must have every industry? What's the point of forming communities then?

Large / non-hermit settlements have several other advantages, like possibility to specialize members in different jobs, getting stuff done a lot faster due to sheer numbers, communicating, more people for battles, etc. I don't see why a hermit shouldn't be able to have every industry, when he's already at a disadvantage for being alone.

That doesn't mean their friends will pop up every time something needs a refill at his settlement.

I never got into steel production in HnH because of the requirements to log in multiple times a day (steel crucibles only hold 12 hrs of fuel). However, when it came to farming, I could work to make sure I could go for a few days without logging in and my animals wouldn't starve. So far I think the same does hold true here in that I can easily build multiple coops. So far the only thing that is "hermit unfriendly" is turkey husbandry.

When did i ever say they had to stop being hermits? What I said was don't be a neckbeard and make friends in irc, forums, in game and pay/ask someone to watch your animals.

OR

build more coops/kill off enough to last the vacation

The time frame is indeed slightly limiting.
A hermit needs to have turkeys for a single reason. The coop provides 3 required resources; turkey poop, eggs and turkeys. A hermit gains a good source of food from a coop in both eggs and culled turkeys for late game humor gains. Also a farmer might require fertilizer which is produced from it. In the end, I believe that most hermits require a coop.

@Dallane
Next time I will indeed cull the majority of my turkeys and spread the remainder.

In H&H silk production could be halted at the egg stage for any leave of absence. Steel was only undertaken when you were available for 3 days. Cows could admittedly survive on grass for a period of time. Coops I believe lasted for maybe a week (unsure) at a full state. Nothing required the the player to log in every 1 - 2 days to maintain a hermitage.

It would be nice to see ~3 days worth of feed in a full coop to be possible. That way at 1/2 capacity approximately one week absence is a possibility.

Do most hermits require a full coop, though? I'm farming for 3-4 people, and I'm doing just fine with half-full.
