Tobacco

I'm no history major, but wasn't tobacco the biggest cash crop of early America? It would be cool if tobacco became one of the leading sources of income ingame. It could have a buff that raised inspiration gain for a certain amount of time in addition to restoring black bile. Maybe it could have an emote in which you could blow circles into a newbie's face?

Gets suggested as often as I pirate those threads to promote the addition of hemp. Hemp is currently available in that other game that loftar coded but sucks. +1 for this AND hemp

Rice and sugar sounds good too. I'm usually not one to want heavy realism in a game, but I feel like this will benefit it a lot.

In this period, yes, it was a big one for Virginia and New England, due to the climate.

Indigo was relatively big more in the south of the Colonies, and Cotton got bigger, when gins came in. Of course, that might not be a thing because they want us to use painfully inefficient hand processing.

What I want to see is pigs. Pigs were a fairly big thing everywhere in the colonies, and especially as you got further south, where they flourished. Pigs also means Barbeque, which is delicious, would use a lot of exciting, expensive ingredients to make the sauce, and was historically popular with Colonists and people who had bad teeth (which was a lot of people). Having Pigs would also mean we could have sounders of wild hogs with terrible purity that people had to go and fight if they wanted their own pigs. I'm thinking the sows would be relatively inoffensive, but the boars would be evil tempered, and aggro you about as often as timber rattlers. People that couldn't farm yet could use them for crude meat recipes in the domestic meats category, people that could would get to capture them like gangbusters in the same manner as you catch a turkey. (But since it's a pig maybe you carry it over your head?)

To put my nerdy two cents in to this the first major sources of income from New England was fish and lumber. New England wasn't suitable for cash crops so tobacco wasn't grown much there.

The south grew tobacco, indigo, and rice. Cotton wasn't really grown much anywhere in the colonies.

New England DID grow tobacco, and STILL DOSE, it's just pipe and chewing type tobacco not bright-leaf cigarette tobacco which grows best in a very small belt of the Virginia/North Carolina Piedmont (and which didn't exist yet). In colonial periods when pipe, Cigar and snuff were the dominant forms you saw everyone growing tobacco everywhere they could cause it was such a profitable cash crop. Your right that OTHER major cash crops like indigo can't be grown in the north, and the north was more focused early on with fish and foodstuff agriculture. But the idea that tobacco is inappropriate for the early colonial New England setting is wrong.
