Corner Post construction - alignment with existing wall

Postby Gromar » Sun Oct 19, 2014 2:38 pm

Hi,

I have just constructed my 3rd cornerpost in the same spot, because it is not possible to build a gate bewteen the 2. It seems I missed the straight line by a couple milimeters.
Due to that experience - and because I spent around 15 minutes trying to align that cornerpost correctly, I suggest that when building a cornerpost, we can see a red / green line to close corner posts, indicating that we can actually connect to them or not. Of course this might also be optional and could be switched on and off in the menue.

Thanks for considering :)

When building walls, align them to the grid by holding shift and mouse wheeling to rotate

Well, that is what I am doing.

The 3rd cornerpost still does not fit to have a gate constructed. And I think I am not too retarded for this :D at least I have already built plenty of gates. However, the request remains. A way to see if my intended cornerpost will be connected to the existing one or not. This would save some hassle and the object placing is not that accurate anyway. Even with shift and mousewheel, I still can not place a cornerpost 100% in the centre of the grid.

Edit:
Alternatively I would like to put up the cornerpost construction and already having the option to construct a gate.

You're idea is valid. You might be able to suggest this to Kandarim he may be able to implement it into his client. Until then you could also use the ctr+L grid tool to double check placement.

don't mess around when placing walls and you won't have this issue. Just make sure that the walls are locked to the grid, both in their rotation and their placement.
If you're still learning how to place walls, just try with some stick fence.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

You mentioned using "shift" but there is also a tie-in with "control". For snapping to grid and rotating to square the build off on the grid use both.

And practice with stick fence.

A recent screen shot showed a 4th corner NOT build for a brick wall. I presumed because the materials are too expensive, but then only 2 corners would really be needed, right?

Usiing control is what causes problems. If you align the wall using shift only then you will have no problems

Build segments, destroy segments, build cornerpost, build gate.
