Meh, what would be the point? I see paved location indicators all the time, some are even arrows. These are even better than mile markers because only the person who put them down knows what they mean. Why fix something that isn't broke?

Mile markers would be less like a building and more like a stone you couldn't pick up, if thinking about it that way helps your pure dev-free wilderness fantasy.

I don't think I could call it "wilderness" any more if there were preplanted mile markers. This would probably be better as a community project than something implemented into the world, imo. I also don't think anyone on the dev team particularly wants you to know where you are in relation to Providence while you're getting yourself lost in the world.

Well fair enough, can one of the mods close this thread then?

And yet there is still a homestead pointer, I remember back in the day when you had to learn the landscape so you could find your way home.

Well we could always make our own just out of sings, but providence is always to the east then once you hit the coast just follow it.

Alternatively you can party up with someone in town (an alt or a friend) and click their picture to get a bearing.

Hm I agree with the thread opener, that mile markers in the map make sense to get a rough idea about the distances and locations.
In contrast to Darknacht and Marp I do not see it as a community built system. Signposts work fine for community built signs.

However, his majesty himself would surely be interested to know how big his empire is. For that reason alone he would have sent out ground surveyours to place markings in the ground (creating grid squares) to make sure everyone knows it is property of his majesty. For the documentation of vegetation in each grid square it is of course neceserry to have them named and being able to document everything neatly in his majesty's annotations.

Therefore: Not player built, but generated in the world map.

Each stone could contain a North / South, East / West number. Providence being 0/0,
1hour or 100 miles or what ever distance we take
west 1/0,
east -1/0
north 0/1,
south 0/-1

So the corner stone 12/4 would tell us, that we are 12 units west and 4 units north from providence. You still have to find a corner stone to have that information though.
