The "normal" player doesn't have the time it takes to build and maintain a high authority town, so they're just not going to bother. The difference that map reduction will make to them is making them more susceptible to destruction by the elites, which is virtually guaranteed to happen and will lead to mass rage-quitting by the non-elites. I mean, it has happened before, how many times does the history need to repeat itself for you to learn from it?

Agreed.

Overall I do think having options to travel further is a good thing. Not neccesarily faster, just with less efford would do. (Being able to sit in a carriage and travel while offline would make a 12 hour journey much less discouraging.)

I also like the seperate map for boston. Too many people settle nearby not knowing the risks. Sure you could throw some insults, question their intelligence etc but without proper basic tutorials it's not a weird thing to do. Not to mention 10 minutes can be considered pretty far in other games.

I vote for complete wipe. If you have to do that radical changes to map - do the new map.

And indeed the big map size does affect the difficulty of both finding the towns and challenging them, but the solution for it (shrinkage) seems too big a price. How about instead you modify the upcoming horses, domestic ones, to be a bit quicker? Say, an unfed, unwatered horse would run as fast as they do now. But if you take the time to stop every now and then and give it some water and some hay, or whatever other food you deem appropriate, they run like all hell broke loose behind them and Sarah Jessica Parker was your destination.

Yes, you would be the target demographic that this thread is for. Unfortunately, horses now travel at the maximum reasonable speed, and still take far too long.

The map is absurdly large, so much so that players like yourself will not engage in the upcoming mechanics. Seems like Carriages are winning the polls but I'm hesitant if players will be too lazy to build these structures.

not ready for a wipe yet, we need much more content :P Until we get something game breaking like that sea trade with Great Britain idea. Wiping the world wouldn't be beneficial to anyone really, all it wold do is diminish the player count

If he really wanted to challenge authority there's a major town just south of Boston that I'm sure he is aware of. Did he actually do it there?

Your complete lack of understanding on the systems you choose to debate is depressing. Challenging the authority of a non-top 10 town will not yield any results. Your suggestions are helpful when they are rooted in experiences. They are frustrating when they are about mechanics you have never tried, nor understand. Please try to remember that.

The majority of players do not have the fortitude to travel the distances required to Challenge Authority. This problem will only expand and compound when players are raided only to find out the scents are worthless as nobody is willing to travel the distance to use them.

I will now be hinnoming everything foolish and off topic in this thread so that hopefully we can start again and the players can once again focus on the FACT that current and upcoming mechanics do not function, at all, with the current map size.

Wait, is it not in top 10? I haven't bothered to check because the whole system is totally irrelevant to me.

Carriages would be a good chance to get rid of porting goods through Boston. But then we already have stalls which somewhat require that

Seems like a pitty to do it now though, better if it's done after some more development.
There are so many changes that could still introduce new things into the map which would need a wipe.

JC, I think if you introduce long-distance fast travel options you should add the ability to give access to it trough some sort of payment. Allowing people to give you silver for travel without having to stand next to your character. The potential income from a proper transportation net would be a nice incentive.

I suppose it'd be possible to get around that by making it more difficult to transport goods to boston. Adding a delay or some mechanic to remotely throw stuff into (but not out of) a stall without involving boston ports. But that'd also kill tradewind threads.
