Yes, our original plan was to add fishing hooks which have purity based on the metal, which in turn push purity to the bait and also the fish caught. This was another item that we had to cut to keep schedule. I decided it was an acceptable loss given that I know very few players who prefer the fishing system over the traps themselves.

I have yet to see a game where the fishing system is loved, so I have no grand illusions that whatever system we come up with for fishing would be astronomically better than what we have now. For the time being, with 11 other food groups, and traps for those who don't like it, the fishing system remains low priority.


Hmm does that mean fish traps are capable of catching every type of fish? I was under impression that traps allow player to catch only a subset of all fish.
While we are at it - which factors affect what type of fish will be caught in a fishtrap? Location and time for sure. What about the bait?

I might've missed it, but do you have an ETA on when the traps might get fished so that we don't have to camp them so the crawdads don't get eaten again? :D

Dark Cloud 2 had a really fun fishing system. There are even a lot of games that are ONLY fishing and some of them are pretty good. I like fishing both irl and in games, and I prefer active fishing to using the traps. The fishing system we have now is in my opinion decent compared to so many mmos where its mostly a matter of equipping the rod, clicking on water, and waiting. It could be a lot better though.

I prefer fishing in World of Warcraft .very easy and nice + sometimes i can catch small chests with bonuses)

Yes, the intention was that fish traps now catch every fish that has a multiplier. Fish traps are dependent on location and the type of bait.
