I think it's best to see these events as a learning experience and move on. For some people moving on means finding a game more to their liking. For others moving on might involve going to a new area and trying to build a new settlement.
Speaking for myself, I do sometimes wonder how the developers envision a forum like "Planters and Pilgrims" should work. Has there ever been a settlement that started on "Planters and Pilgrims" that ended up successful? Is the purpose of "Planters and Pilgrims" to help new players find a group and settle together? Or is "Planters and Pilgrims" meant to be more of a tool for experienced players to find and rob/kill new players?

Nice to see town recruitment is a fluid thing.

Also some recruitment posts have not ended in disaster (yet).
