You could have just deleted that specific post and gave him a warning about it, since you clearly had no issue with the thread as it was until he made that post. Correct?

Why does it matter if he posts about some ****** game?? I don't know about anyone else but I barely took a second glance at the thread and I never even visited the website, you are giving him more attention now by having deleted it in case you hadn't realized.

Now I kind of want to check it out.

Yet you can buy gift cards for Amazon at Lowes. They sell a lot of the same stuff you can buy at Lowes. I'm not trying to disagree with you here, just saying that could be seen as something similar. (I may be mistaken about Lowes, but the local grocery chain, Kroger, does sell Amazon cards, and I'd say I can now buy about 30-40% of what is offered at Kroger stores--by type, not specific brand/label--through Amazon.)

I read the thread and didn't think much of it because it did discuss the player housing and such between that game and UO. I'm not really sure at this point where the issue came up myself. Does really matter what the initial post was if the OP starts steering the conversation into an advertisement? That's the same sales tactic that tons of real estate and beauty cream hucksters use to get you to buy product.

Your examples confuse me because I'm not certain in what way you're using them. Do you mean for example, the beauty cream seller gives you a sample for free to get your opinion and tries to push the product on you later on? I guess it could be seen from that perspective but we're not talking about some generic product in this case.

In my view, there wasn't originally any intent with the thread to advertise some other game but rather he was asking for opinions regarding the video he linked. If what he posted later on was more along the lines of blatant advertising I still don't see how that calls for the removal of the entire thread considering its original purpose, which was for criticism.

The tactic is to get you to talking about an idea, and then slowly steering you towards their particular brand or idea. It quickly then 'buy my product and you'll never regret it!" (except every day for the rest of your life if it ends up leaving you busted). That is how the sales tactic works, and is best pulled off. Was this the intent of the thread to begin with? I don't know.

I wasn't here to read it, now I want to know about the game the thread was about. Someone PM it to me, I'm curious since you all cause such a big fuss over some offtopic thread about another game.

Right, user banned for a day. I've given ample warning to stop trying to advertise other games here and I don't care if you're joking or if it's a crappy game no one would want to play anyway, or if it takes all of 10 minutes to win; you're still breaking the rules.

You seem to be having a very difficult time comprehending a very simple concept. These forums are not a venue to advertise or promote other games or products. They are a place to discuss the game/product of which they are affiliated with.

Dude what are you talking about? Did you read the post I just made? I am totaly in agreement with the ban! Personally, I think you should start banning for the mere mention of any other game on the off chance someone might google the name and then quit Salem forever.

Oh and I also think you're really cool and smart and handsome.

You just know the people complaining have never been anywhere close to being in charge of a business.
