It is actually not an harrassement. It's a state of things. As I understand the event, Jarrod is actually the owner of the game, of the forum, and if they "didn't receive any complaint", and knowing the way Meow turned her sentences, she has actually been asked to leave it alone. Specifically.

Then it should be worded that Meow received word from the member of the community to whom that face belongs who specifically said he didn't mind being featured. As an act of precedence, Meow's reasoning is a bad step coming from an administration that has made a lot of progress lately in both game features and community handling.

Although you feel it isn't harassment, it in fact is. Say it wasn't Chief's supposed face but instead some other player and the same reasoning was made that unless they come forward and complain that it's their face, it wouldn't be shot down. It was my understanding that the rule in place

7. Do not post personal data without permission. Personal information (such as real life name, address or photo) of a user may not be posted without the express consent of the person or people concerned. Any posting of one's own personal data is entirely at the user's own risk, and when posted to the forum, is considered to be consent.

was instituted to protect players from harassment. Even an attempt to reveal personal identity of a player, despite the fact that it's accurate or erroneous, should be considered an act of harassment enforced by this same rule.

RL pictures of Chuck Norris are also permitted, unless he downloads Salem and objects.

That's a stupid standpoint. So if a person leaves the game for X weeks anyone can post personal information about them until they complain when they return?

Agreed. This sets a terrible precedent. The purpose of http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10032&start=40 is to attempt to intentionally oust the rl identity and data of a player/member of the community, which despite its lack of a direct complainant is inherently against the forum rules. The images should be removed and the topic hinnomed if for no other reason than to ensure that this kind of harassment isn't copied and used in the future.

It can be hard to distinguish between RL information and someone just making stuff up. If someone posts an image or information about someone I can't contact, I will most likely remove it with a warning as it cannot be confirmed or denied. If someone posts information about someone I can contact, and they either don't care or tell me it's not even their information, then there's no reason for me to remove it or issue bans.

Yes, there are situations where this could get messy, and I didn't expect such a high incidence of online stalking so I wasn't really expecting to have to worry so much about it, but I'll do my best to strike a proper balance between safety of posters' identities and letting you do your creepy politics.

Quoting this here because I don't think I could possibly find a better explanation of what happened to Claeyt mentioned by one of the staff themselves. No one deserves to be banned for 6 months, especially when part of the reasons behind it are for quoting others breaking the rules.
