Something similar to this.

Before anybody freaks out, know that we intend on allowing people to leave said introductory area with no physical goods, just the experience and confidence that Salem has the potential to be worth the struggle.

I wonder what kind of an experience would Salem make if it were possible to enforce only one character pro person.

I don't think taking their stuff away would help.
But a more extensive tutorial would be great.

If there was a PvE server, I'd built a giant wall boxing Boston in that you can't destroy, and then you might just start to understand why Salem wont work as a PvE game.

It would take you a couple hours. Some dev would, just like now, come and destroy it in 2 minutes. You would repeat the feat few times until you would get bored. There is practically no profit for you except giggles. And new players would still be able to play by using wilderness guide. In fact, you would be making them a favor - they wouldn't leave the safe zone and get killed by some camper. Your example isn't the best one I think.

PvE games are not griefer-proof. It's just their mechanics are designed in a way where it takes a lot of effort to grief and damage done is minimal.

tell that to the sims players that once upon a time were besieged by endless walls of refrigerators and legions of heathens hell bent on pissing all over their kitchens.

I think what he's trying to say is that removing the PvP from the game would create a situation in which the crime system is completely obsolete. Building a wall around Boston would just be to point out that walls no longer make sense because they can't be destroyed. If you think about it, removing PvP would mean they'd have to remove the entire crime system and all the walls and the defenses. The nature of the game would change so drastically, it would really become a different game entirely.

Please do, you will save me a lot of time. I always find building walls boring. I'll just plop a gate in it et voila.

I always knew there is good deep in your heart.

No one came to Salem because he liked to kill other players. 14 of 15 quitted after they got killed the first time without provocation.

The game clearly isn't for them. How is that HnH has a decent population with the same mechanics? Permadeath isn't the problem
