I'm not sure how much more level-headed and well-mannered we have to be in the face of your less-than-sterling behavior. What you seem to be saying here is that we have a bad attitude and crude behavior as long as we continue to disagree with you.

DirtyOldHobo wrote:chances are something like the massacre wouldn't have happened as a more level-headed Mikus would have waited for the go-ahead. And then what would have happened? Why, you would have had roughly 20-40 more people as part of the Tribe, depending on how many stuck to the game.

One more time, I'll explain. Mikus doesn't need any go-ahead. There was no tribal rule preventing him from killing anyone he wants of those newbies. None of them joined the tribe before they wandered off to that claim.

We would not want those 20-40 people in the tribe. Chances are 0-1 of them would have measured up to our standards eventually. They would have all been welcome as treaty members, sure, or as future targets of raids, I suppose, but since most of them would have likely left the game after a day or two of playing to move on to the next broadcast game, there's no reason Mikus shouldn't have just had his fun while he could and no one in the tribe disagrees with his decision.

Ikpeip wrote:If you meant "explain to me your goal [as the Tribe]..."
The Tribe's goals are somewhat ambiguous (there is no Tribal Mission Statement), but among them is the intent to be the sole dominant power in Providence. You and the other fellows crying foul in this thread and others are missing the point entirely. Killing you was not about showing our dominance over you. Killing you was about showing our dominance over our detractors. Our foes knew where Mikus was today. They knew what he was doing. They wanted him to stop, and were incapable of doing anything about it. There are a lot of propagandists on these forums who will try to convince new players (and on some level, themselves) that the Tribe over-represents our dominance; that we are not as uncontested as we claim. Things like today prove otherwise. Tribal Braves and Horde affiliates can walk off the Boston Claim to collect scalps at their leisure - everyone else must act as a jackal, and sneak off when the predators are not looking.

Nobody knew where Mikus was today. He was attacking 5/5/5/5 noobs off the boat somewhere just outside of town but nobody knew about it until after it happened. I didn't even know he was attacking people until the stream was over. I'm sure there were plenty of people that would have gone after him if they knew about it. Things like today prove nothing. It only proved that you guys are willing to allow cheap thrill killing of new players that hurts the game. I walk off the Boston claim on a regular basis so I don't know what you guys are talking about. Nobody walks off the Boston claim because they have no need to. They're not based right next to it like you guys are. That being said, yes, you guys are the biggest group playing so we have to play around that.

Ikpeip wrote:If you meant "explain to me your goal [as an individual in the Tribe]..."
My goal as an individual is to maintain the grow the power of my chosen group, and ensure it is capable of achieving its goals regardless of changing circumstances or opposition. I chose the Tribe because it had an ambitious spirit, members who showed tenacity, plenty of room for improvement, and the potential for me to quickly exert a large amount of influence over the group's operations. The Tribe's overall goals are not the ones I would choose were I starting my own faction, but as I made the choice to join the Tribe, I strive to help the group achieve these goals as I am able, for that is the obligation I took upon myself when I joined. I don't regret this decision - the Tribe is a great group of folks who work well together and are highly competent. Our average member would be a "rock star" in any other faction. Working with this group has allowed me to maintain competencies that might otherwise rust - logistics, tactics, strategy, and training. I get no personal satisfaction from scalping randoms, but I do get satisfaction from seeing Mikus wreak havoc at his leisure.

Highly competent? All of your towns just have more people. I'm amazed how little work you guys actually have done on them compared to some of the other towns with less people. You're average member isn't competent by themselves. Biddas was completely useless last world. His town was a running joke for it's design. None of you would be Rock star's by themselves. The rest of us playing in smaller groups don't think they're rock stars, we think that you're all followers who are only safe because they grouped up and are willing to do what the Chief wants. Larger groups of players will always win games like this but they will also kill little indi games like this if they don't take an active interest in it's growth.

Ikpeip wrote:A side benefit is the wailing, gnashing of teeth, and rending of garments, from people like Claeyt/Jalpha/Kaios. They swim in the Chief's ocean, and their rage is pleasing to see. It's fun to watch Claeyt post outraged nonsense based off an inflated sense of entitlement - Jalpha repeatedly make claims of some other group coming to save the day without ever taking action himself - Kaios just being his unfortunate self. That's not enough in itself, but along with the rest, it makes for a nice side bonus.

The Chief isn't even playing anymore and I've never swum in his ocean, not when he was on Roanoke, and certainly not here. None of us are raging because you hurt us personally in any way. All of us are raging because you're attacking brand new players from an advertising stream of the game for no reason and destroying the game in the process just like you destroyed Plymouth. Just because you can kill every new player in the game doesn't mean you should. We're raging because we want to see the game grow and you guys clearly don't give a ****. If you actually cared anything about this game you'd realize that this streamer with 10,000 YouTube subscribers would actually have helped this game grow and you could have helped him and protected him so that you'd have more people to play this game with.

To everyone else and all of us veteran players it looks like you guys are intentionally trying to drive any new players from the game so that it's just you playing it. If you actually cared about this game at all you'd tell the braves to protect new players like this.

The only line to take from this whole episode is when Aavak realizes he's being stream sniped and Wikus is yammering to him about the treaty and he says "Up to now, the game seemed quite friendly, but if the game isn't I'll just play a different game." That's exactly what will happen. People will just go and play a different game.

If the Tribe continues to harass new players then the game will die just like Plymouth died. Feel free to attack older players but nobodies impressed with screen shots of a 100 stat character killing a 5/5/5/5 noob who's been playing all of 30 minutes.

I never said 'dominate,' so it shouldn't have quotations around it. I said 'dominant' which is similar, but not the same. That aside, when there's nobody else we just sit back until the next batch come in.

Don't be fooled here DoH. They aren't dominating us. The rest of us veteran players don't fear them. They can't attack our towns or kill us if we don't do something stupid. They are the largest group is all.

Ikpeip wrote:
DirtyOldHobo wrote:Also, after chatting with a few of your tribe members here, I highly doubt they are all as good as you say, as people with such attitudes don't exactly shine a good light on your faction either.

Your opinion on this is not very relevant, especially with a history to draw on. One Mikus destroyed your group as Claeyt watched.

I didn't watch anything. I just heard someone was killing some of the noobs around Boston. I didn't see him or know what was going on. Mikus wrecked the little training camp of a large group of 5/5/5/5 noobs who were learning the game from a streamer they followed that's all that happened.

Why are you proud of Mikus chasing away a large group of new players? Why are you proud that he killed a chance for the game to grow? How can you want to see the game die a slow death like this?

My only goal here is to try and show you guys that the tribe is partially responsible for why this game is dying before it's too late. If and when the game does finally die we'll all know the reasons why: The Dev's messed up the mechanics and the largest player group drove away all the new players because they didn't care if the game grew or not.

Binks and Darwoth are top players. Brona would be a mediocre player if he wasn't in the tribe and Biddas is a running joke. The older tribal members barely play but large groups are key to winning. The main reason the tribe is successful is because they are bigger than the rest. They are filled with followers who want to be on the winning side. That's all.

Just the mention of his name sends you into spasms of double-posting walls of text.

It seems he's always on your mind.

Maybe there should be rule about killing new players while the population is sooo low.

The standards for the tribe include Biddas and Brona but not any of these new players? WTF are you talking about. All of these players literally just learned the game yesterday, how do you know if they would have stayed with it or if they would have eventually wanted to join?

There's absolutely every reason for Mikus to not have killed a bunch of 5/5/5/5 noobs. Reason number one is that the game is dead without new players. There will be no more worlds and no more game without an influx of new players. Maybe only a few of them would have stuck with the game but at least the game would have grown a little bit. How can you not care if the game grows or not?

Both you and Paul said that you disagreed with Mikus's actions and that you guys wouldn't have killed a bunch of 5/5/5/5 noobs for no reason without at least giving them a chance to join the treaty.

I never said that. You're a liar and a racist. I agreed with Mikus' actions wholeheartedly and applauded his success. Maybe if you spent less time at white supremacist rallies and more time in a library your reading comprehension would be better.

I actually didn't even realize that he wasn't playing anymore until someone mentioned it today. I knew I hadn't seen him in awhile but I didn't realize he was gone.

The only question I have for any of you guys is what you're going to do to help the game grow. You have to recognize that this was an actual chance for this game. This Aavak regularly gets over 10,000 views on some of his videos on YouTube. His highest ranked video is something like 15,000 views. His playlists of his games last for months.

https://www.youtube.com/user/Aavak

Salem could have been his new playlist for the next 6 months with thousands of potential players watching his videos and watching his stream. Even if they were just casual players it would have been enough to save the game. Because of the tribe's actions today he probably won't come back and the game dies.

Why don't you guys step up and save the game. Why don't you contact him and offer him protection for his stream to build a town as long as you guys can base there. Imagine you guys being able to stroll through a big 100 person town with a pile of noobs all crowding around. After all this the only real question is do you guys want to save the game or do you want to keep killing it until it's gone.

This discussion has been ***** free so far so let's leave the cheap trolling aside. You said that you generally wouldn't just randomly kill a noob for no reason. If you completely agreed with his action of killing a bunch of 5/5/5/5 new players who literally had just walked out of town to the streamer's camp then you really must hate this game to see so many potential players discouraged so early.

If you want to argue further, first apologize to Mikus and Biddas for your stereotyping and ignorant American attitude towards foreign cultures.

I'm re-posting this here because I'd like your perspective to my answer to Mereni. She claims that it's not the Tribe's responsibility to bring in new players and I'm saying that the only way small indi games like this succeed is by dedicated veteran players helping new players find the game.

I said:

"It's absolutely all of our responsibilities to help the game. That's how small indi games like this grow. There's no ad budget. There's no game publisher now. It's just us and the dev's. The dev's are responsible for making the game and improving the game and they're failing at that. Don't get me wrong, I agree that that's the main problem, but in small indi games like this, a dedicated player base that enthusiastically helps new players is what makes a game succeed or die. Wouldn't you rather dominate a game with 10,000 players instead of a game with 100 players.

So...yes, it's absolutely up to you and the tribe to help this game. It's necessary for you guys to recognize that this guy brought hundreds of viewers to Salem today and if he had made a series of it he could have brought over 10,000 viewers to the game through his YouTube videos like his other "Let's Play" series. This is how indi games succeed. By attracting exactly this sort of mid level streamer looking for something different to play that no other streamer is playing. this game needs the tribe to not kill noobs and to protect this guy's stream if he does come back. If you don't, then the game dies."
