What? That's horse **** and you're going to be sorely disappointed if you go around believing that.

You seem to be confusing this gig with a paid job.

Even with paid jobs you're not expected to take or allow endless amounts of ****.

I never disputed that - but as a moderator - or even as a simple employee in a paid job - you cannot just fling a "shut up idiot" at anybody who is throwing **** at you. Because this is the point where the other guy goes to your superior/manager and files harassment charges against you.

And here in the forums you "moderators" have more than enough tools to counter abuse of others. Throwing **** back on top of that is only a sign of a lack of manners and lack of knowledge about being a moderator.

In simple words: your behaviour -> overall appeal of this forums. You behave good/polite -> more appeal. You behave bad -> less appeal.

I'm not sure if there's a more accurate response to this beyond 'sucks.'
These are users who are actively abusive towards other users and moderators and who are well aware of their actions. On more occasions than anyone can count the devs have been informed of this and they've informed the devs of the moderators.

No one is obligated to take the endless amounts of ***** that you want them to and if that detracts from your forum experience then I'm sorry to hear that, but sucks.

The point here is: you are the moderators. If people are abusive against other people, then go ahead and do something, but use universal and comprehensible criteria and use them on everybody - even if it is your best buddy. Only then you will be able to stop this problem. If nobody can count on the "mods are my best buddies"-bonus, nobody will dare to do this ****.

And the most important part on this is: don't do it (the abuse) yourself (as moderators) - because you lose a lot of credibility if you do stuff you ban other users for.

For the sake of clarity here, you're not even arguing the same point anymore. No one is giving friends preferential treatment or anything like what you're describing. Ikpeip was being a ***** for being a ***** sake, because he had no stake in the moderation at hand but felt the need to post regardless in as catty a manner as possible. Sabi called him an idiot for this.

If this counts as horrid mod abuse to you? Well, as you said, you're free to take it up with the devs.

ok, and what would happen if i now called Sabinati an idiot for doing so? 1 day ban for me? - you see: exactly this is not universal and comprehensible. A mod can call somebody an idiot (for what ever reason) but a normal user cannot do it.

or another example: the "know your enemy"-thread is still there & open, but the thread you have banned ikpeip for was closed for some ominous "post content" reason.

edit: I do not have the time to write big bad letters to the devs - who - as i heard have more than enough stuff to worry about. The idea behind my 2-3 postings here is to give you an example about what is going wrong with this forums. I will now stop & suck it up. If you take it into consideration - that would be fine; if you treated that like "tribe member = talks only ****" - well, i would not cry about it, since it is effectively your problem as long as you don't manage to clean up the mess in these forums ( search for "idiot" -> 52 pages  )

Nothing would happen to you, except someone might call you an idiot back, which is pretty much what happened between Ikpeip and Sabi. It's when behavior gets out of hand that warnings and bans are handed out. Acting in ways as you have described, such as ***** on the forum endlessly, regardless of the reasons, nets you warnings and bans. If a moderator acted in the same way they would be reported to the devs for review as well.

The 'know your enemy' thread is open by dev action, if you have a problem with it being open then I'm afraid you'll need to take it up with them and not a moderator.
Ikpeip's ban was handed out for reposting a thread immediately after it was locked, making it effectively spam. Ikpeip was being a smartalec about the lock. I believe there was already a discussion on this topic.
