But you were not killed for no reason. You chose the life of crime and chose to be a criminal by not signing the Treaty. This is what inevitably got you killed.

It doesn't take long if you set that as a goal. It means trading for the iron bars, getting coal, skilling up to brazier forging, scouting for location, planning base layout, leveling ground, and building the brazier, walls, and gates.

However, for players who are just looking at what can I build next, or what skill is easiest to get next, this plan and strategy is outside of the normal progression. You can build a lot of structures and fields and have a lot of time in before getting iron and brazier forging if you are not aiming for that. There is nothing in game to direct a player to a viable defensive strategy. The screenshots in this thread will continue showing murdered players who simply built the things they could as they gained new skills rather than trade for specific things required for the current most viable defensive strategy.

No it will continue to show the death of criminals who focused on their own self-aims instead of signing the treaty and becoming functioning members of society.

Your definition of criminals is overly encompassing. A new player isn't going to know about the treaty. Then after being killed for not knowing, or knowing and not caring, why would they join the group that just murdered them. I have to believe it doesn't happen often. Anyway, I remain a filthy squatter. I have used a new wilderness port to relocate and have placed a new claim on your burial grounds. I have rebuilt the three drying racks that you destroyed at my old claim, as a demonstration of a continuance of my greedy self interests.

Don't be surprised if you are killed again then. Also, all educated new players sign the Treaty. The fact that you lacked the intellectual ability to find and sign the governing document of the land is just more reason that it is not surprising you failed the survival of the fittest test that is Salem.

If you are arrested or have to pay a fine for a law you were unaware of, do you blame the police or yourself? If you get in trouble at work for doing something you didn't know you couldn't do, do you blame your boss or yourself? Get edjukated yo.

And to further the analogy of Dungeons and Dragons, new characters are kind of expendable. Though I did have assistance from my neighbor, it didn't take me very long to get to where I was when Dada was killed. The biggest loss is having to wait for my claim to run out to go back and get my ****. If my neighbor, Eleanor, didn't have me sign the treaty in the first place I would've been killed probably when my humours where in their mid 20s. It would suck but it's hardly the end of the world. I mean aside from some inspirationals and clothes there's hardly a "gear grind" going. I actually prefer the snakeskin coat and you get that pretty quick. I don't get pvp in this game though. Not that I don't get PVP but the combat system is slow and clunky and not fun at all. It also has some peculiar barriers to entry I don't get but to each their own. Plus so long as they haven't already attacked you, you can run and log out. I just don't see what the big deal is with having dedicated pvp "clans" like the tribe. Well outside of the context of game mechanics themselves.
