[quote="Mereni"]Saying there's no reason to set up defenses because 'it's just a matter of time' is just silly. /quote]

No, more like I realize my mistake and could start over and do just that. Set up the defenses and my base will be monitored until a point in time when it can be destroyed. So why bother.

It isn't that the defenses are currently underpowered, but there is an extensive effort to seek out, monitor, and destroy claims and that because built up claims are highly visible and not moveable, detection and monitoring is unavoidable. Because defenses are essentially capped to prevent spamming of additional defenses, I feel the tribe will eventually become stronger than the current defense cap hermit players are able to build without a high upkeep cost.

I know you're gonna laugh, but it's actually Dungeons and Dragons fault. The common idea of an rpg in the minds of most people has a terrible power inflation because of the hitpoints per level in D&D. So while in the real world the best warrior in the world needs to be smart to survive any battle. In most online rpgs, in which D&D set the precidence for, you have people that could never be hurt by anyone else. That makes the power advantage whoever has the most free time/expendable money on their hands.

I wonder what an open world game with perma death and realistic damage model would turn out like.
