It also goes (almost without saying, but I am anyways), that your Seafaring proficiency would have to interact with Fishing, maybe capping fish purity or determining how long it takes between action popups.

Also Seafaring is too short a name, it needs to be longer (and cornier) like the others, maybe 'Sailing & Swabbing' or 'Nautical Knack' or 'Flotsam and jetsam'.

P.S. If multiple servers ever come back then large player ships could be a means to travel between servers.

Lets hope that doesn't happen.

Another factor that would really make large boats more important is if map generation were changed to produce

* More coastline by creating more bays, inlets, coastal islands, sand bars etc etc.
* Rivers that are much bigger starting at the coast and penetrating great distances westward, all the way too the darkness even. They should be about as common as the huge mountains were finding, say 5-10 for the whole map?
* Greater degree of connection between rivers, make them completely dendritic, all rivers need to flow into the sea. Haven had better river interconnection then Salem and it should be the other way around.

Naturally the big boats will need to be deep water only, so they can't go cruising down the typical streams we have as they would be stopped by thouse intermittent shallows (which are a godsend for thouse of us walking, leave them in for the small streams) the big rivers will not be too much more of a barrier.

Shameless bump for the new devs. This fits right in with the professions idea. A seafaring profession.

RonPaulFTW, I don't know how hard these ideas would be to implement, but I think they're great! It would add a whole huge new element to the game.
