Library/Bookshelf Wallpaper

Maybe add some umph to Aristotilean Logic, Literacy, and A Formal Education by unlocking a wallpaper that will mimic a full floor-to-ceiling bookshelf? You could craft it from a Pilgrim's Bible, Leather, etc. I think it'd make the townhouses much classier if they were owned by literate Pilgrims. XP

Or an actual bookshelf, would be nice to see some more useless furniture items for aesthetics.

It'll never happen but a Library building with the ability to write books.

How about writing a book actually?

Crafting recipes:
- Book cover
- Book page

Material would be leather (-> parchment)

Each Book cover can hold a certain amount of pages (see keyring+keys), a text can be written on book cover and on each individual page (similar to the wooden sign). Books can be stored in the book shelf.

I second this - totally, immediately!!!

Roll of paper and letters would be nice too.

I believe there is an old thread kicking around on crafting paper that turned into crafting books, my thoughts are that I don't really see the point.

I do however, like the idea of a bookshelf wallpaper, even if most pilgrims in the day would have only had a bible.

The early American settlers were actually very well read for the most part (meaning the ones who could actually read, read well).

Pistol your right that theirs no point unless books DO something. Most obvious use would be as a Curio, perhaps usable many many times to set it apart from normal Curios.

How about the writing of a book consumes Inspiration and drains all proficiency bars to create a Curio which has stats proportional to thouse drained bars. It is kind of a way of compiling a wide set of Curio's into into one uber curio, but it's uber not because it gives high amounts of points but because it's massively reusable and you get your points back several times over across all thouse uses.

If the book is usable multiple times then reading the book needs to give much less then what was consumed to make it, so for example if you had studied 1000 points in Mines&Mountains then wrote a book, that book would be studied for say 100, and have maybe 50 uses so the return is ultimately x5 (could be more or less so long as it's greater then the input). Now like most Curio's the book will have more then one kind of proficiency point, the book reflects what you studied before writing it.

Their would need to be a limit on how many books one could study before taking identical-curio penalty, if all books count as 1 curio type then it is fairly limited, you would tend to read one book at a time as your raising each proficiency, not that interesting. But what if books had several types, this would encourage large collections and mixed reading. Their could be some arbitrary types controlled either randomly or by player selection, but I think the simpler and more natural way would be to classify a book by it's highest proficiency point type, so Pots & Pans is the books highest point value it will be a 'cooking' book and you can read at most 1 cook book without penalty. But you can read it and a second book type even if that second book also has some Pots and Pans points, just like normal curio combining.

Naturally proficiency levels should influence writing of books, I would have Law & Lore cap each individual proficiency category in the book at 1:10 so at 30 L&L the book can give max 300 for each proficiency. Arts & Crafts would act to cap the number of proficiency point types that will go into each book, this would simply be the square-root of A&C level rounded down, so 30 A&C lets you make a book with 5 different point types, at 225 you could make a book with all 15 types, when making a book your highest studied proficiency point types go into the book and any types beyond the cap are lost. And lastly Faith & Wisdom determines the efficiency of your studied points being converted into book points, the formula would again be square-root of F&W but without the need to round down, so 50 Faith & Wisdom would allow 7.071% of studied points to go into the book. Materials used to make the book would determine the number of times it can be read with perhaps 20 times being a base value.

There is a lot of stuff i have to write down outside of the game which is game-related - just to name some:
- the elemental values of my purity pots
- locations of interest (purity nodes of stuff foraged)
- how-to's

apart from that stuff, you could do:
- price lists for trading
- plain propaganda ¦]
- write stories/diaries
- make (location-)puzzles
&c.

The game calls itself a "sandbox"-MMO. IMHO this would be a very nice "sandbox"-aspect.

Making game more interesting and fun is already "DO something". There are a lot of things in many games which you don't HAVE to do for gameplay, but you MAY do 'em for fun (killing everyone you see, for example). It's more casual games stuff, but in hardcore MMO it still works well.

Writing books, composing melodies, chilling, killing, playing mini-games, making paper-planes - all of this helps game a lot.

Once again i need to agree totally.

Glutony recepies, letters, tips for teammates, maps - you name it. A really huge bunch of stuff.

If someday my grandchildren will see witchcraft in this game - writing books will be even more usefull.

I would just like to reiterate, jorb and loftar, that I wanted simple wallpaper. These other Gimme-Gimmes are the ones being complicated. :lol:
