Sorry for the delay getting this back open, but moving everything but the posters out seems a bit dumb. I thought clipping a couple of bad posts would be easy, but I don't see any way of doing that without axing pretty much the whole thing and remain "fair" about it.

This is a "tough" forum for many of these reasons complained about above, and is one of the seedier corners of the Internet for it. Yes, many of these posters are using stereotypes and caricatures to portray a people in a light that doesn't really reflect them now. Even then, no, they weren't monsters, but we were all younger and immature back then. You can either look back and see how you were and smile saying "I'm glad we've grown past that" or you can look back and hate yourself. I'd prefer the former. I feel I have enough reasons to hate myself without beating myself up over my country/culture/society 's big mistakes.

I am not commentating or criticizing the moderation. I am commentating on the ideas Magic posted.

The difference here is that Mushi and Coles are using the images in a derogatory. They're using racist images from WW II for the sole purpose of humor. This forum isn't the right place to post these images, especially in the childish way that they're doing it. If they instead wanted to talk about the posters and their meaning and then change them to represent the Chief and the Tribe then I could understand it. I wouldn't even mind so much if they actually understood how this is hurting people who might come across it. They should have just used some of the non-specific Japanese WW II posters out there. There's a million of them.

I've never said anything of the sort. I said that the environment of poverty, a diminishing history of racism, a lack of access to education, and a fractured and broken culture of family, community and home have led to inner city violence. Those are the deeper reasons.

If you're just looking for connections between violence and personal responsibility then Black men commit violence for the same reasons White men do 'uncontrolled anger and emotions', 'they want something they don't have' or 'they're looking for the easy way out'. We learn to control our violence through our culture, society and family. Personal choice is formed by those things. You don't pop out of the womb with the correct moral code for society already learned.

It's not a matter of race. A white kid that grows up in rural Nebraska with a mom addicted to meth and a dad in jail won't learn how to control his emotions or anger any better than a black kid growing up in inner city Chicago with a mom addicted to crack and a dad in jail. He won't have the resources to take advantage of the educational system in place and his family life will hurt his understanding of how you're supposed to behave in society. He'll probably end up in jail at some point in his life because of the broken family, culture of drugs and things he learned from it. Saying that that meth kid had the same morale upbringing, personality and ability to choose a life without crime as some white kid in the suburban nuclear family is idiotic.

Violence in America is waning. The national murder rate is similar to the 70's. All crime is down even though we're still in a 6 year economic downturn and a new Gilded Age of wealth disparity that's erased half the middle class. The distortions, scare tactics and misinformation about 'Black Culture' and 'American Violence' are coming from Right-Wing news outlets and all the Blonde Reporters at Fox News.

Black Americans have full control over their violence, in fact I think that the main step to getting black violence down now is letting their communities deal with it.

The problem is that not everyone agrees with you that these images should be used in an ironic way yet. They still show how we used propaganda to promote violence against an entire race. There are still survivors of the American-Japanese WW II detention camps living.

Racism is an outdated notion that should be mocked and made ridiculous, but it should be made ridiculous by the people it offends and targets, not by you. It's like if you started going around using the 'N' bomb as a joke in casual conversation. You might think it's funny but it was never targeted at you. You can't use it because it has no full meaning, pain or offense towards you and your family.

Unfortunately as you can see from Darwoth's posts and others here, they actually still believe this **** about Blacks, Hispanics and other racial groups. Asians aren't fully out of the racist sites yet. It wasn't so long ago that the Vietnamese were the focus. These days we're dealing with Laotian, Thai and Hmoung refugees from that war and in certain areas of this country racism and violence against Asians is still part of the conversation on racism.
